After a comfortable win the previous week, St. Joseph’s faced a difficult game against 2nd division side Carlow Rovers in the Shield. St.Joseph’s played some nice football in the opening minutes and it wasn’t long before David O’Neill dribbled through to put the home side on the score sheet. The Joey’s had plenty of chances but it was 25 minutes later when they eventually got their second, Chris Townsend’s deflected shot beating the keeper. The second half saw the away side put on more pressure. St. Joseph’s conceded a controversial penalty and were reduced to ten men in the process. After converting the spot kick Carlow Rovers had a period of dominance and equalized soon after. However St. Joseph’s regained control of the match and Evan Doyle finished off a nice move just minutes before the final whistle. Final score St.Joseph’s - 3 Carlow Rovers - 2. Killeshin 6, St.Joseph’s 3. Under 12 friendly soccer match - The game was very high scoring and very entertaining too. The game began even enough, but Killeshin had the better chances. Killeshin scored a goal in the first few minutes but it was disallowed for offside. St. Joseph’s were lucky. St. Joseph’s scored against the run of play when Mark Deane slotted the ball into the bottom corner to make the score 1-0 to Joeys. Killeshin got their own luck when an indirect free was given for a back pass, that was not. They got a goal from the free kick to make the score 1-1. Killeshin got a second goal a few minutes before half time. Half time score 2-1. Killeshin got a third goal at the beginning of the second half. Eoin Maddock scored for St. Joseph‚s after some great build-up play. Neil Byrne got a brilliant goal in the top corner but there was one problem, he scored for Killeshin to make it 4-2. Killeshin got a fifth goal and a sixth goal before Mark Deane scored after the goalie tried to clear the ball under pressure, to make the score 6-3. It ended that way in an exciting game with a fighting St. Joseph’s team improving all the time. This was a great Team effort for St. Joseph’s and full credit must be given to everyone involved.
