SOCCER: St. Joseph’s 3, Slaney Rovers 2. This was a very entertaining game and full credit must be given to both teams who fought very hard for maximum points. Both Teams took a while to settle but when St. Joseph’s did they eventually got off the mark when Eoin Maddock put a lovely ball through to Barry Kennedy who crashed it through to the Rovers net.

Both Teams continued to put the pressure on each other and in the 24th minute Rovers equalised with a great finish. Shortly afterwards josephs were unlucky not to go ahead again when an Eoin Maddock strike went just over the Rovers Goal. But just on the stroke of half time Rovers went ahead for the first time with a great finish to the back of Home sides net. H.T. St.Joseph’s 1 Slaney Rover’s 2.
The second half started as strong as the first. St. Joseph’s knew they had to work extra hard to get anything out of this game and that is exactly what they did. They continued to pile on the pressure on the Rover’s defence and they were rewarded in the 40th min when super - sub Cathal Whelan slammed the ball to the back of the Rovers net. Score now 2-2.

This goal had a great effect on the Home side who were now getting on top of a Tiring Rover’s side. The score of the game came in the 42nd min when an Eoin Maddock corner was punched out by the Rover’s keeper into the path of Barry Kennedy who volleyed a super strike which gave Joey’s the lead again. This concluded the scoring and full credit must be given to St. Joseph’s for a deserved win. Best for St. Joseph’s were Aaron Doyle, Jack Gillman, Rory Lynch, Neil Byrne, Sean Delaney, Barry Kennedy and Eoin Maddock.
