SOCCER: Under 11 League. Vale Wanderers 5 -2 St Joseph’s . This game was a lot closer than the score line suggests. Vale Wanderers got off to a great start with a goal in the 3rd minute. St Joseph’s got stuck in and started playing good flowing football and deservedly equalized with a great goal from Eoin Maddock. The home side responded by piling on the pressure on Joseph’s defence. St Joseph’s defended well with Mark Deane, Christopher Gaule and Niall Fitzpatrick doing their best but were eventually broken down when the home side scored two more goals in quick succession just before half time.H.T.3-1


Vale Wanderer’s restarted the 2nd half with 2 more quick goals. Despite the score St Joseph’s continued to try hard and were unlucky when Jonathan Brennan struck the post with a great effort. They were rewarded with a late goal when Aaron Doyle cleared from defence to Jonathan Brennan who crossed to Sean Delaney who drove the ball to Vale’s net.


Best for St. Joseph’s were Christopher Gaule, Jonathan Brennan and Niall Fitzpatrick who had a great game in defence.


UNDER 13 LEAGUE: Vale Wanderers 1-3 St Joseph’s. St Josephs traveled to Leighlinbridge to play a crucial away match against Vale. Both teams were evenly matched and played end to end football. Joeys opened the scoring when Lee Buggle played a long ball out of defence and Jeff Sutton took the ball down well and hit a low shot to the Vale net. Vale threatened throughout the first half but great defending by Paul Costello and Darren Murphy and with Lee Buggle at his best in goal the score remained 1-0 at half time.


The second half saw Joeys take the game to Vale and Sean Conlan was on hand to score with a good header in the first couple of minutes. 20 minutes into the second half Jeff Sutton made it 3-0. From this point on Joeys had to deal with sustained pressure from the home side who scored their goal with 5 minutes to go. This was a fine all round tem performance with Paul Costello, T J Curran and Robert Stynes outstanding.


UNDER 9 LEAGUE: St Pat’s Boys 6-2 St Josephs. This under nine team are playing some lovely football but came up against a very good Pats team. Despite conceding 3 goals in the first half Joeys were always in the game thanks to Adam Murphy’s fine goal. The second half saw Joeys come more into the game but they could not contain the home side. Sean Kirwan was on hand again to keep Joeys in the game when he scored another good goal. Best for Joeys were Emma Delaney, Cian Coyle and Mark Lawler.


Under 9 League: Vale Wanderers Reds 0-1 St Joseph’s. Joeys under 9s reds continue to get good results but had to fight every inch of the way against a much improved Vale side. Both teams worked hard through out and it was always going to be difficult to separate the two sides. Art O Dea kept Joeys in the game with a fine performance in goal. At half time it was 0-0 and it was down to Brian Hosey taking his opportunity well in the second half that Joeys got the result. In a hard fought win Stephen Hanlon and Fiach Byrne were outstanding.
