Hanover Harps 1-5 St Josephs

Joseph’s haven’t had a league game in 5 weeks but they started where they left off. With injuries to key players, Joey’s were forced into changes for this game, With David Byrne starting up front, Brian Shiels starting on the left wing and Brian Farrell starting right back, and James Dempsey starting in the mid field. Joey’s went 1-0 down by a mistake at the back that goalkeeper Lee Buggle kicked off a Hanover player and rebounded to another Hanover player and stuck it in the net. Joey’s were in control though and when David Byrne was brought down in the box, David O’Shea put away the penalty. 10 min later Jeff Sutton buried the ball in the net after some good play. Joey’s played some of their best football this year. Ciaran Williamson scored a hat trick one of them which was a great individual effort. Joeys were in control for the rest of the game. Joey’s brought on 5 subs in the second half Luke Doyle, Cormac Walsh, Patrick Kelly, Alan Byrne and Jeff Atkinson on goal. Best for Joey’s Ciaran Williamson, David O’Shea, James Dempsey and Brian Farrell.

Under 12 League
Hanover Harps 2-1 St Josephs

Joeys under 12s continue to be involved in close games but are not getting the results their efforts deserve. In a very close game both teams played hard but neither could break the other down in the first half. HT0-0
The second half was end to end and despite the whole team putting in a lot of effort they were not able to contain the home side who scored twice. Ruairi Keenan scored a fine goal for Joeys but despite Joeys piling on the pressure in the last minutes they could not get an equaliser. FT2-1
Best for Joeys were Jason Noctor, Paul Costello and Michael Foley.

Under 10 League
St Pats Greens 7-3 St Josephs

This was a great game of football with both teams contributing. The first half saw the home side take control and they were 3-0 up very quickly. Had it not been for some great goalkeeping by Art O Dea this could have been much more. HT3-0
The second half saw Joeys come into the game and when David O Neill scored to make it 3-1 this gave the young Joeys lads renewed hope. However Pats then scored to make it 4-1. Joeys came back and a goal from Christopher Gaul left just 2 between the sides. Pats then scored 2 more but Joeys pulled another back through David O Neill. Pats scored another to win the second half 4-3. Fiach Byrne and Brian Hosey worked hard at the back for Joeys and Jack Sheehan and Gary Scully were outstanding in a very good team effort.

Senior League
St Josephs 8-1 Dereen Heights

An impressive St Josephs Senior team secured 3 points in the Carlow League Div 4 with a comfortable victory over Dereen Heights on Sunday last in Tinryland. St. Josephs led by 3 goals at the break, 2 from David O’Neill and 1 from the former goalkeeper John (Rasher) Farrell who may be an important outfield player in future matches after this performance. James Moore was first to score in the second half and Eddie Lyons converted a penalty before Dereen scored their only goal of the game. Chris Townsend, John Kelly and John Farrell added to the scoreline and well deserved victory for the home side. Best for St. Josephs were David O’Neill, John (Rasher) Farrell, Eddie Lyons, Shane Delaney and Paul Haughney.
