Andy Murphy memorial Events set for March 2015
Plans are well advanced to remember and celebrate the career of legendary Tinryland, Carlow and Leinster footballer Andy Murphy from Ballyloo on the 50th anniversary of his death next March with all proceeds going to the Co. Carlow hospice association for the provision of pallative care.
At the time of his death at the age of 39 on 10th March 1965 Andy left behind his wife Terry and six young children. The family at the time got great support from the G.A.A. and the people of Tinryland and Carlow in general. 50 years on his children Ann, Jim, Helen, Brenda, Mick and John now want to give something back to mark the special anniversary. Ger Broderick, Eamonn Byrne, Bridget Doyle, and Catherine Mulhall together with the six Murphy siblings form the organising committee while Seven Oaks Hotel manager Michael Murphy and Carlow musician Ollie Hennessy have also rowed in behind the project
A one week series of events have been drawn up commencing on Saturday 28th February with a senior football game between 2014 Carlow semi-finallists Tinryland and neighbours Palatine which will be preceded by the launch of an exhibition in Tinryland G.A.A. club of Andy’s career and that of many of his famous contemporaries. It is hoped that this pre- season local derby between the neighbours will become an annual event to take place on alternative years in Rathcrogue and Bennekerry. Other planned events for next March include a golf classic in Mount Wolseley on Sunday 1st March, a 3K fun run at the Tinryland walking track on Wednesday 4th March and a memorial gala night in the Seven Oaks Hotel Carlow on Friday 6th March when legendary commentator Michael O’Muircheartaigh will be the guest of honour.
Further details can be got from the Andy Murphy memorial page on facebook, the Tinryland and Carlow G.A.A. websites and the Carlow Nationalist.

Tinryland GFC members made two contributions totalling €5228.20 to the Irish Cancer Society after participating in Today FM's Shave or Dye fundraising campaign. A great night in the clubhouse culminated in a wonderful contribution to a worthy cause. Well done to everyone involved. We hope next year's event will be even more successful.
