Launch of Local Football Documentary
There was a very good attendance in Tinryland G.F.C. on Friday 30th May for the showing of the documentary “Man about Football” produced by club member Gregg Murphy.
“Man about football” charts the career of former Tinryland, Carlow, Leinster and compromise rules player Tommy Dwyer who helped the club to win Carlow S.F.C. titles in 1979 and 1981.
The attendance at the launch were fulsome in their praise of the production which was carried out by Gregg as part of his thesis in television and media studies at Trinity College Dublin.
On the night clips of other Carlow matches involving Tommy were shown including the famous June bank holiday game with Dublin in 1988 when Tommy received the man of the match award.
The documentary itself can be viewed on the Tinryland G.F.C. website and facebook and features interviews with Tommy and his playing colleagues including Ned Deane, Pat Foster, Joe Walshe and mentors Vinny Harvey and Leo McGough.
Tinryland Junior (A) team have reached the semi- final of the Carlow S.F. L division 4 with the minor team already in the final of the M.F.L. division 1. Tinryland seniors narrowly lost out in making the semi- final of the S.F.L. division 1 but were successful in their final league game recently against eventual semi-finalists Palatine. The senior team will be next in action in the Tinryland G.F C. promoted Dan Morrissey cup with other confirmed entries Gracefield (Holders) and Killeshin.
The Carlow S.F.C. does not begin until the end of July when Tinryland will open the championship against Kilbride.
