Productive trip to Kerry for Tinryland Senior Footballers
Tinryland senior footballers made a very productive opening to the new season when they travelled to West Kerry recently to take part in the 23rd Tayto/Longford Arms Comortas peile Paidi O’Se.
In the first game against An Gaeltacht Tinryland played superb football to lead by 10 points to 5 at the break against the former Kerry andMunster champions. Mid way through the second half Tinryland still held a 4 point advantage but in a 4 minute spell the Carlow team conceded two soft goals which left An Gaeltacht ahead by two points with 5 minutes remaining. Tinryland’s star forward Paul Broderick then came to the rescue with 3 unanswered points in the last 3 minutes to send Tinryland into the semi final against Dingle. Others who performed well for Tinryland in this game were goalkeeper Trevor O’Reilly, defenders Conor Byrne, Danny Moran and John Paul Moore who received a serious arm injury near the end together with Keith Jackson, Cian Moore, Padraig Townsend , Evan Doyle , Cormac Walshe, John Farrell, Jack Lowry and Alan Barrett.
After their exertions in the quarter final Tinryland made a slow start in their semi final with Dingle and were losing by 2-4 to 0-3 at half time. The second half saw a much improved performance by last years Carlow finallists and they outscored the home team by 5 points to two but could not narrow the gap any further The final score was Dingle 2-6 Tinryland 0-8.. Paul Broderick despite missing a penalty ended as the tournaments top scorer with 16 points in the two games played. Others who performed well included Garry Morrissey, Peter Doran, Ian Scully, Glen Doyle, Padraig Delaney, Niall Barrett, Kevin Barrett, Shane O’Neill and John Dwyer.
Tinryland seniors begin the Carlow S.F.L. division 1 campaign with a home game this coming Saturday at 4.45 p.m. against Mount Leinster Rangers.
