Heartbreaking one point defeat for Tinryland in Co.
Senior Final

Tinryland senior footballers suffered a heartbreaking one point defeat
to Co champions Old Leighlin in a tense Co final at Dr Cullen park on
Sunday 16th October. After making the best possible start with 2 points
from Paul Broderick and Garry Morrissey within 2 minutes of the throw in
Tinryland were put under pressure for much of the first half and trailed
the Old Leighlin men by 4 points at half time. A goal from top scorer
Seamus Kinsella enabled the champions to lead at the interval. When the
second half began Tinryland did not give up and with 10 minutes
remaining were back on level terms. Highlight of that second half was a
wonderful inspirational point from wing back Danny Moran. Old Leighlin
then had a purple spell scoring 4 unanswered points to lead by 4
entering stoppage time. An Evan Doyle goal gave Tinryland supporters
some hope but alas time ran out and Old Leighlin retained their title by
the minimum margin.

Tinryland had wonderful support for the final and a huge number of the
4000 strong crowd cheered the team to the bitter end. Back in the club
house after the game the team were applauded by the large number of
supporters in recognition of their efforts in the final and throughout
2011 in general. There had been great excitement throughout the village and the
surrounding areas in the parish in the lead up to the final while large amounts of flags
and blue and white colours displayed on homes with the centre markings on all approach
roads to the village being painted in blue and white colours. With the average age of the
panel only 23 hopes are high that the team and supporters will have another great year in
2012.
