Bennekerry/Tinryland advance to Féile finals
THE Bennekerry/Tinryland under-14 girls took part in Feile Peile. In their opening game the local girls easily accounted for O’Hanrahan’s on a score of 2-3 to 0-1 with scores from Lauren McGrath (1-1), Amanda Kinsella (1-0), Orlaith Moran (0-1) and Lauren Dwyer (0-1).
In the second game B/T managed to hold off Myshall on a score-line of 3-5 to 2-0 with the scorers being Aoife Byrne (1-0), Orlaith Moran (1-0), Dearbhla Kelly, Judith Doyle, Lauren McGrath, Amanda Kinsella and Niamh Redmond (0-1) each.
In the final B/T once again faced o’Hanrahan’s and proved to be the stronger team with a comprehensive 5-6 to 1-1 victory. The B/T scores came from Amanda Kinsella (2-1), Lauren Dwyer (1-3), Dearbhla Kelly (1-1), Nicola Hanley (1-0) and Orlaith Moran (0-1).
This will be Bennekerry/Tinryland’s 5th year to represent Carlow in the Feile competition which will be held later on this year.
The team was Clodagh McGrath, Niamh Redmond, Katie Doyle, Niamh O’Neill, Caoimhe Townsend, Rebecca McCarthy, Aoife Byrne, Eimear Fahy, Jemina Kirwan, Alison Farrell, Judith Doyle, Orlaith Moran, Dearbhla Kelly, Lauren McGrath, Lauren Dwyer, Amanda Kinsella, Una McVeigh, Nicola Hanley, Jenny Condon,Caoimhe McCreanor and Orla Stafford.
Great credit is due to coaches Martin Doyle and Sean Lowry for their work with the team.
LADIES GAA: Bennekerry/Tinryland ladies football team played their first game against Naomh Eoin recently. Naomh Eoin started well scoring two great goals before B/T got back into the game through a Deirdre Tomlinson point, three pointed frees from Christine Scully and a goal from Emma O’Regan to put B/T ahead by 1-5 to 2-1 at the break. In the second Tomlinson scored a further goal before the move of the match with a great passing move involving sub Sinead Lyons, Caoimhe Whelan and Christine Scully ended with Scully scoring an excellent goal. This was a very exciting match with Naomh Eoin managing to score 5 goals in the second half. Further scores for B/T came from Caoimhe Whelan (1-0), Sinead Lyons (0-2) and points from Deirdre Tomlinson, Aisling Kinsella, Louise McArdle and Aislinn Whelan to leave the teams level on a score of B/T 4-11 Naomh Eoin 7-2.
B/T had outstanding players in player of the match Deirdre Tomlinson, Amy Doyle and Aisling Kinsella.
The team was Clodagh Behan, Christine Scully, Emma, Niamh and Lisa O’Regan, Sarah and Amy Doyle, Caoimhe and Aislinn Whelan, Joanne Wall, Deirdre Tomlinson, Carrie Lawlor, Aisling Kinsella, Roisin Cleary and Audrey Brown. Subs Sinead Lyons, Liz Lowry, Jenny Martin, Bernie Morrissey, Ciara Butler, Louise McArdle and Lisa Marie Farrell.
Bennekerry/Tinryland under-14 girls played their first match of the year against MLR on Sunday morning and won comfortably on a score of 5-11 to 1-2. B/T had excellent players in Lauren McGrath (4-2), Lauren Dwyer (1-1), Amanda Kinsella (0-4), Aoife Byrne (0-3) and Orlaith Moran (0-1).
The team was Niamh Redmond, Katie Doyle, Caoimhe Townsend, Rebecca McCarthy, Niamh O’Neill, Aoife Byrne, Eimear Fahy, Jemina Kirwan, Alison Farrell, Judith Doyle, Orlaith Moran, Dearbhla Kelly, Lauren McGrath, Amanda Kinsella, Lauren Dwyer, Una mcVeigh, Nicola Hanley and Jenny Condon.
Training takes place every Monday and Wednesday from 7pm to 8pm. Players are asked to attend all training sessions. New members are welcome.
