Two prizes for Tinryland in Carlow GAA awards
TINRYLAND figured among the winners when the 2006 Carlow GAA awards were announced last week. Tinryland GFC was awarded the prize for the best-presented grounds while Denis Shannon will receive the Cumann na mBunscol award for his work in promoting Gaelic games at primary school level. The awards will be presented at the annual function in the Dolmen Hotel on Saturday, December 2.
GFC BUSY SCHEDULE: In the lead-up to the festive season there is a busy schedule of events listed for Tinryland GF.C. The very popular card game Texas Hold’em which commenced on Tuesday last will continue every Tuesday night at 9pm.
Tinryland gun club will hold a fundraiser in the club on Saturday, November 25, with music by Men In Black. On Sunday, November 26, the very popular monthly juvenile traditional music session will take place between 5 and 7pm.
One of the highlights in the coming weeks will be the return of legendary folk singer Jimmy Crowley who will perform his unique brand of folk music on Friday, December 1. Tickets will be on sale for this event. On Saturday, December 2, at 10pm the Bennekerry- Tinryland ladies club will hold their Christmas draw.
Tinryland variety club have a fundraising night scheduled for Saturday, December 9, while the AGM of Tinryland GFC, preceded by Mass for deceased members, is listed for Monday, December 11.
The annual members Christmas party will be held on Saturday, December 16, and at this function Tinryland supporters club December draw will be held. This draw will have a prize fund of •5,000 with a main prize of •2,500. On the same night the raffle for two premium tickets to Croke Park for the 2007 season will be held. Tickets are now on sale for this draw at •20 each. A separate draw for premium tickets to Croke Park for forthcoming rugby and soccer internationals will be held early in 2007.
The juvenile Christmas party and disco is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, December 17, while on St. Stephens Day a charity football match between team mentors and players is being organised.
For the third successive year a trip to the Leopardstown Christmas race meeting on December 28 is being planned. Anyone interested in travelling should leave their name with a social club committee member. Members can ring in the new year in the club at the new year’s eve party scheduled for Sunday, December 31.
A full range of Tinryland GFC merchandise including jerseys, shorts, socks, tracksuits and rainwear will be on sale for the Christmas market shortly.
AGM OF TINRYLAND GFC: Nominations and motions for the 2006 annual general meeting of Tinryland GFC should be lodged with the secretary Linda Kenny before Friday, December 1. This year’s AGM.will take place on Monday, December 11 and will be preceded by Mass for deceased members at 7.30pm.
TINRYLAND GFC CROKE PARK PREMIUM TICKET DRAW: Tickets are now on sale for 2 premium tickets in Croke Park for the entire 2007 GAA season. The draw will be held at the annual members and supporters club night on Saturday, December 16. Tickets are priced at •20 each and can be obtained from any committee member.
GIRLS FOOTBALL: Benne-kerry/ Tinryland Girls U-16 football team had a fine win over O’Hanrahan’s in the U-16 A County Final on Sunday last on a score of 6-6 to 2-0.
B/T had plenty of chances early in the game but were unable to put points on the board until Aisling Kinsella scored a point from a free in the 10th minute. Further scores then came from Zoe Curran (1-0) and Jamie Lee Doyle (0-1) as B/T trailed their opponents by 2-0 to 1-2 at the interval.
In the second half B/T completely dominated and got all the scores with goals coming from Jamie Lee Doyle (2), Deirdre O’Sullivan (2) and Liz Lowry (1). This was another great team performance.
The team was Clodagh Behan, Paula Murphy, Ciara Butler, Samantha Sheehy, Aoife Byrne, Sarah Doyle, Deirdre O’Sullivan, Aisling Kinsella, Audrey Brown, Elizabeth Lowry, Niamh Walshe, Bernie Morrissey, Jamie Lee Doyle, Zoe Curran, Niamh Mullins, Danielle Power, Emma O’Regan, Eimear Fahy, Kayleigh Delaney, Clodagh Condell, Kate Dooley, Orla Stafford, Niamh Redmond, Caoimhe Townsend and Amy Dwyer.
Great credit is due to coaches Martin Doyle and Pat McArdle.
The Chairman of the County Board Fran Mullins presented the cup to B/T Captain Sarah Doyle after the match.
The team was then treated to a meal in Reddy’s due to great fundraising from the committee.
The Medal Presentation Night will take place in Tinryland GFC on Friday next, November 24 at 8 pm.
The Uachtarain of Cumann Peil Gael Na mBan Geraldine Giles will attend so a large turnout is requested. All are welcome to attend.
