Second annual Tinryland GFC family fun day on Saturday

FOLLOWING the success of last year’s inaugural event the 2nd annual Tinryland G.F.C. family fun day will be held on Saturday next, September 9. All juvenile members of the club and their families are invited to take part. The day will consist of football for all age groups, BBQ Rounders, cinema, water combat zone, water slide and a mini beach for younger children.

The day’s activities will begin at 2 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m. when all children U12 will have to vacate the club grounds. The evening entertainment will commence at 9 pm. when the Tinryland variety group led by Robert O’Neill will perform a show.
Following this top Carlow group “Phoenix” will play on an open-air stage from 10 p.m. The cost of the day is €20 per family, which covers up to 2 adults and all children under the age of sixteen. This once off fee will cover all activities including the BBQ and the evening entertainment. Anyone wishing to attend the evening entertainment only will be charged €10

GOOD WIN FOR U-10S: Tinryland 5-5, Ml. Davitts 2-4. Tinryland U-10s put up a great team display to defeat Ml. Davitts in this year’s Maurice Nolan’s B final in Dr. Cullen Park on Saturday last. Lauren Dwyer starred for Tinryland, scoring 2-1 on the day. Other Tinryland scorers were: Conor O’Shea 1-2, Adam Murphy 1- 1, Fionnan Burke 1 goal, and Mark Lawlor 0-1. Tinryland were also well served by Conor O’Toole, John Murphy, Roisin Byrne, Adam Buggle and Cathal Costelloe. Mick Nolan assisted by James Burke managed the team.

The U.-14 team were defeated by a much stronger O’Hanrahan’s team on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-5. The team played poorly in the first half, and was down 0-7 to 0-2 at half time. Despite a much better 2nd half, the town team ran out easy winners. Tinryland had fine players in John Doyle, Pat Browne, Paul Costelloe and Jason Noctor.

BENNEKERRY/TINRYLAND DEFEAT ST. FORCHTERN’S: B/T played St. Forchtern’s in the 11 a side County league on Tuesday in Fenagh. Deirdre Tomlinson had an excellent game for B/T, where she dominated midfield, and was responsible for gaining a penalty, which was converted by Christine Scully. Christine also scored 2 more points to leave the half-time score B/T 1-2, St. Forchtern’s 0-4. In the second half further scores of 0-1 from Scully, and 0-2 from Caoimhe Whelan left the final score B/T 1-5, St. Fortchern’s 0-6. This was the first win ever for B/T against this opposition. The team still has to play St. Mullins and Mt. Leinster Rangers.

The team was Clodagh Behan, Roisin Cleary, Lisa and Emma O’Regan, Gloria Nolan, Sarah Doyle, Deirdre Tomlinson, Caoimhe Whelan, Christine Scully, Audrey Browne, Ciara Butler, Liz Lowry, Jenny Maher, Lisa Marie Farrell, Joanne Wall and Bernie Morrissey.

B/T ladies committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 12 at 9 pm in Tinryland GFC Centre.
