Mixed Luck for Tinryland teams on opening weekend of juvenile games
Tinryland G.F.C. juvenile teams had mixed luck on the opening weekend of Carlow coisde na Nog games that were played on Friday and Saturday last. The U16 team made a successful start to their campaign when they scored a ten-point victory over a determined Michael Davitt’s at Rathcrogue on Friday last.
Tinryland had the better of the exchanges in the opening half building up a 9 point lead by the interval. When it appeared that this game was all over the Leighlinbridge outfit staged a great comeback that brought them to within three points of the home side. Tinryland however upped the tempo once again and two goals from Mark Morrissey and Cian Clancy put the game beyond Michael Davitt’s reach.
Others to shine for Tinryland were Brian O’Neill, Matthew O’Toole, Cormac Walshe, Alan Kirwin, Donal Kingston, and Luke Doyle.
Tinryland U12’s faced a very good O’Hanrahans team in their opening game on Saturday last. Despite playing well Tinryland found themselves six points in arrears at the interval and mid way through the second half the town team had stretched their advantage to 10 points following two well-worked goals in the 27th and 34th minutes.
A goal from Cathal O’Toole gave Tinryland some hope but they could not claw back the defecit and the O’Hanrahans who look like serious championship contenders ran out comfortable winners in the end. Best for Tinryland were goalkeeper Shane Webb, defenders Brian Byrne, Sean Delaney and Mark Deane, midfielder Cathal O’Toole and forwards Paul Kingston, Cian Lawler and Michael Delaney.
