TINRYLAND MINOR FOOTBALLERS BEGIN SEASON ON A WINNING NOTE: Tinryland made an impressive start in the M.F.L. (A) division with a very comfortable victory over St. Andrews in a one sided game at Rathcrogue on Sunday 3rd April.
This game was virtually over as a contest at half time when the winners led by 2-7 to 0-0. The home sides most impressive player Glen Doyle contributed 4 points of his teams total in that opening half and the tall Co. minor player added a further 1-3 in the second half to finish with a personal tally of 1-7. Tinryland’s other goals were scored in the first half by T.J. Dowling and Garry Fields. The second half saw a mini revival in St. Andrews fortunes with the Bagenalstown boys scoring 3 points via Brian Doyle (2) and Craig Doyle.
Tinryland had impressive players in defenders Peter Doran, Joe Mernagh, Chris Townsend and Ian Scully together with the aforementioned Glen Doyle at midfield and Patrick Townsend, Ambrose Doran and Garry Fields. Tinryland’s second outing in the M.F.L. took place on Sunday last when they lost to a very good Michael Davitt’s outfit in Ballinabranna.
JUVENILE G.A.A. NEWS: Tinryland began the defence of their Carlow and All Ireland Feile titles when this seasons crop of U14 footballers won their two opening games in this years Carlow feile qualifiers against Palatine and Fenagh recently.. The final score in the first game was Tinryland 0-11 Palatine 2-2. Tinryland who include four of last seasons all conquering squad in their line up easily defeated Fenagh in Fenagh on Wednesday last and will play Clonmore at home on Monday next at 6.45 p.m. to decide who will play in the Carlow feile final. Tinryland U16 footballers No. 1 team will open their season with a home game against Michael Davitts on this coming Friday 15th April at 6.45 p.m with the No. 2 team at home to Clonegal on Friday 29th April at 7 p.m. Tinryland U12 footballers begin their campaign at home to O’Hanrahans on this coming Saturday 16th April at 6 p.m.
TINRYLAND G.F.C. FOURTH ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC: The Tinryland G.F.C. 4th Annual Golf classic will take place at Mount Wolseley Golf club on Tuesday, May 10. As usual the classic will be a team of 4 stableford competition with a shotgun start at 1.45 p.m. Entry costs 400 per team and includes a 4 course dinner.
TINRYLAND PLAYER HELPS KNOCKBEG REACH ALL IRELAND COLLEGE’S FINAL: Tinryland footballer Colm Doran played a prominent role in Knockbeg’s dramatic All Ireland colleges semi final victory over Omagh C.B.S. in Navan on Saturday last. The recently crowned Leinster champions had to call on all of their reserves of strength to overcome the McCrory Cup champions in a thrilling game that was decided after extra time. Knockbeg will now face St Mary’s of Galway in the All Ireland colleges S.F.C. A final.
LADIES FOOTBALL: Bennekerry-Tinryland Minor Ladies Football Team played their first minor championship game on Monday night against Eire Og. The team had some nice passing movements with some good scores coming from Caoimhe Whelan, Sinead Lyons, Christine Scully and Niamh O’Regan to help to lead by 2-7 to 0-2 at the interval. A further five points in the second period saw B/T win comfortably by 2-12 to 1-2. The scorers were Caoimhe Whelan (2-2), Sinead Lyons (0-6), Christine Scully (0-3) and Niamh O’Regan (0-1).
The team was Clodagh Behan, Carrie Lawlor, Rosalind Deane, Ciara Butler, Emma O’Regan, Gloria Nolan, Amy Doyle, Niamh O’Regan, Simone Kelly, Christine Scully, Caoimhe Whelan, Roisin Cleary, Laura O’Farrell, Sinead Lyons, Lisa Marie Farrell, Lisa O’Regan, Aideen Byrne, Sarah Doyle, Aisling Kinsella, Deirdre Doyle, Audrey Brown, Amanda Cassidy, Deborah Fields, Paula Murphy, Liz Lowry, Bernie Morrissey and Laura Murphy.
The Under 14 Ladies Feile Peil takes place on Saturday April 23rd.
Bennekerry-Tinryland Ladies Football Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday April 19th at 9 pm in Tinryland GAA Centre.
The winners of the club draw were the Cleary family, Megan Fields, Ria Mullins, Paula McCarthy, Clodagh Behan, Mary Dwyer, Marie Farrell and Patricia O’Regan.
