Two more significant wins for Tinryland Gaelic Football teams

Teams from Tinryland G.F.C. scored two significant wins in the past week.
At Dr. Cullen Park on Monday of last week the minors followed up their recent M.F.L. success with a first round championship victory over Eire Og who were seeking their eight consecutive Carlow M.F.C. The Tinryland win was fashioned by an all round team performance. Two second half goals by Glen Doyle and Paul Broderick helped to turn the tide Tinryland’s way and at the final whistle the Tinryland lads were eight points clear of Eire Og. Best for Tinryland who will now play Rathvilly in the semi final were Brian Byrne, Evan Doyle, Richard Whyte, John Murphy, Ian Scully, Peter Doran and Colm Doran.
At Dr. Cullen Park on Thursday last Tinryland Juniors captured the S.F.L. division 4 title with a 3 point win over Old Leighlin. This game which was played in difficult weather conditions saw Tinryland lead by two points at half time through 2 Paul Broderick points and another from Eddie Lyons. On the resumption Tinryland raced into a five-point lead by the 44th minute through two more Broderick points together with one from Richard Whyte. Tinryland then were rocked back to reality when Old Leighlin veteran player Ned Sheehy goaled from a 20 metre free in the 46th minute. The Tinryland response was immediate however and a John Murphy point in the 47th minute steadied the ship before Richard Whyte scored an insurance point with a brilliant score 5 minutes before the end. Best for Tinryland were goalkeeper David O’Neill who brought off a wonderful first half save, together with veteran captain Martin Doyle, Mark Townsend, Peter Doran, Brian Byrne, Richard Whyte, Paul Broderick, and David McDonough.

Tinryland Intermediates will play Grange in the Co. semi final at Dr. Cullen Park on this Friday 27th August at 7 p.m. Tinryland U14s will be in action in the Co. semi final against Mount Leinster Rangers on Wednesday next September 1st in Fenagh at 7 p.m. A Meeting of Tinryland Juvenile G.F.C. will take place in the GAA Centre, Rathcrogue on this Thursday 26th August at 9 p.m.
