Doyle Wins Leinster Schools Title
Tinryland AC Athlete Deirdre Doyle was a sensational winner of the Leinster Colleges Senior Cross Country Championships in Dublin last week. The talented Rutland girl, a Leaving Cert Student in St. Leo's, Carlo is currently being offered scholarships by two American colleges. She now goes forward to the All Ireland Colleges Finals in UUJ, Jordanstown on March 7th next. She is also a talented GAA and basketball player. It was a great day for the Tinryland club when Mary Ann O'Sullivan, was 2nd in the Intermediate Girls event behind her adversary Mary Mulhare of Portlaoise. Her sister Muireann finished 14th in the same race to lead Gaelcholaiste Carlow to team gold.
In Tymon Park,Tallaght on Sunday, Tinryland Masters mens team were victorious in the National Masters Cross Country Championship. The team was led home by Tommy Payne in 30th position who also took gold in the Masters over 50 section. JJ Murphy finished 64th in the 200 strong field and was first over 55 defeating some major contenders while Eddie Walsh was 71st with Denis Shannon and Kevin Cuddy ensured that Tinryland took team honours from Rathfarnham in Dublin and St. Finbarr's in Cork. Coincidentally, it exactly 20 years since Murphy and Shannon were part of an All Ireland winning Masters team with the club along with Peter Murphy and Jimmy Doyle in Westport Co. Mayo.
