Record entry for turkey trot on St Stephen’s Day
THERE was a record turnout of over 80 competitors for the annual St. Stephen’s Day Fun Run and Walk in Tinryland last week. This year the event was in aid of Downs Syndrome Carlow with a large total of over •1,300 raised on the day through entries and other donations.
The athletes who came closest to their predicted times were Eddie Walsh, Jackie Murphy and Keith Heary while the fastest time on the day was recorded by Spaniard Marcos Seizo who completed the course in 21 mins 34 seconds.
The prize giving took place afterwards in the school and all entrants received spot prizes.
The Carlow Senior Cross Country Championships will now be held in Tinryland on Sunday, January 7.
The days programme will consist of juvenile relays starting at 1 pm followed by the Senior Womens 3 km race at 2 pm and the Senior Mens 10km event at 3 pm where Tinryland and LO’T will compete for the Odlum Cup.
The Tinryland team will be led by Pat Byrne who will be aiming to win his 8th consecutive title and he will be again backed up by athletes the calibre of 13 times winner Tommy Payne, Dwayne Farrell, PJ Byrne, Eddie Walsh, JJ Murphy and Jeremiah O’Sullivan.
