ATHLETICS: A number of Tinryland athletes were medal winners in the 2nd stage of the Carlow Track and Field Championships recently. In the juvenile section, Peter Morgan won both the junior shot putt and long jump while Christopher Costello won the junior high jump and Michael Mullen won the boys U-17 100m. Other wins on the evening came from Darren Murphy in the boys U-17 javelin, Alison Farrell in the girls U-13 long jump and Deirdre Doyle in the girls U-17 800m. In the senior mens section, Dwayne Farrell and Tommy Payne were silver and bronze medallists in the 3000m. Tinryland took the team race. Paddy Mullins also won the junior men 800m. The following are the local results: Boys U-17 100m: 1st - Michael Mullen, 2nd - Christopher Costello, 3rd - Peter Morgan. U-17 Relay: 1st - Tinryland. U-17 Javelin: 1st - Darren Murphy, 2nd - Michael Mullen. U-17 Long Jump: 1st - Peter Morgan, 3rd - Christopher Costello. Junior men 800m: 1st - Paddy Mullins Junior shot putt: 1st - Peter Morgan Junior men high jump: 1st - Christopher Costello, 2nd - Peter Morgan Senior men 800m: 2nd - PJ Doyle Senior men 3000m: 2nd - Dwayne Farrell, 3rd - Tommy Payne. Team- Tinryland Girls U-13 long jump: 1st - Alison Farrell Girls U-17 800m: 1st - Deirdre Doyle Tinryland AC won the award for best juvenile club at the Ardattin Sports on Sunday last helped by a large contingent of young athletes from the Leighlin/Ballinabranna area.
