AUTUMN LEAGUE (CHANGED TO THURSDAY THIS WEEK): There was an exceptionally large turnout of almost 80 athletes, joggers and walk-ers for the 1st stage of the Tinryland Autumn league on Wednesday last. The mens race was won by William Hoyne of Thomastown in a time of 9 mins 49, just 1 second ahead of pre-race favourite Dwayne Farrell, who was still feeling the effects of the National Half Marathon some three days previously. In 3th and 4th positions were Veterans Tommy Payne and Jim Stafford of Slaney Olympic, Wexford with Marathon Man Tommy McElwaine of SBR 5th. The womens section was won in fine style by Colette English of St. Abbanís ahead of Patsy Snoddy and Ann McGreal of Sportsworld, Dublin. This was the inaugural night of the walkers league with Irish International David Kidd winning in an excellent time of 15 mins 45. The 2nd stage over 4 miles will be held in Tinryland tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7.30 pm with the walkers starting at 7. pm sharp. The second leg has been changed to Thursday due to the death of Mr. Ted Dermody, Powerstown.

Women: 1st- Colette English (St. Abbanís) 12 mins 42 2nd- Patsy Snoddy (Ind) 13 mins 02 3rd- Ann McGreal (Sportsworld) 13 mins 54.
Tinryland Walker Seamus Connolly had a very impressive performance to win the National over 50 5000m Walk at the National Masters Championships in Tullamore recently.
