Tinryland Take Silver in National 10km
Holders Tinryland had to settle for silver medals in the National 10km road race, which was held in Bilboa Co. Limerick on Sunday. Defending champion Pat Byrne finished 5th in an excellent time of 31 mins 29 in the 300 strong field. The Carlow CC champion demands such high performances from himself everytime he competes that he was unhappy not to regain his title. Dwayne Farrell with a time of 32 mins 20 finished 17th in what was his best run of the year. Tommy Payne was 25th and 1st over 45 while Eddie O’Neill completed the scoring quartet in 26th position. The event was won by National CC Bronze Medallist Paul McNamara with former Latvian International Sandis Bralitis in 2nd with local star and former US Scholarship Student Tom Carey taking the bronze. Tinryland were edged out for the gold medals by Rathfarnham by just 45 seconds in the team event. National team events are now based on the total time run by club athletes not on scoring positions.
