Pride of Place Competition
Judges will arrive in Tinryland today (Tuesday) to judge 2015 IPB Pride of Place Competition.
The Judges will be arriving from Carlow into Tinryland via Kane’s Cross and a left turn at Roche’s Cross to arrive at the Parish Hall at 10am. There will be an official welcome followed by a Power Point Presentation. They will cross over the road to St Martin’s Tce and be brought to the other side of the village in a pony & trap to see the Trees Project. From there they will go to Fr Cullen Memorial School, where they will be greeted by the children, staff and the public in the School Hall. There will be exhibitions in the hall. They will then visit St Joseph’s Church. The will continue on to Tinryland Park where there will be lots of activities taking place. They will continue back down the hill to stop at 98 Commemorative Stone then on to Kane’s Cross. The event will end in Tinryland GFC where there will be further exhibitions. Everyone is invited to the school, the park and the GFC , please come out on the day and anyone on the route have your places looking beautiful with flowers and flags hanging, clean and litter free. This is an important day for Tinryland so please get involved in organising this day for our village as your involvement will ensure its success. It is a day for us to celebrate and enjoy.
School news- Its the final term in school and we have been quite busy over the last few weeks. Currently there is a huge surge of enthusiasm as Tinryland get ready to enter the "Pride of Pace" competition. The local community are doing wonderful work around the village and the pupils of Tinryland NS are engaged in painting a new school wall mural, planting flowers and painting silk wall hangings in an effort to showcase Tinryland at its best for the competition.
Bike safety day-Our school was awarded a grant from the Carlow Local Sports Partnership and the County council Bike week grants 2015. As a result, the "Cycling Safety School" came to our school for the day to teach the children about safe cycling in a fun and meaningful way!
Carlow Local Authorities Road Safety art competition - Congratulations to Padraig Thompson who was one of the winners in this recent art competition. Well done Padraig!
WB Yeats art/ writing competition- Congratulations to Katy Small, Senior Infants who recently won a very prestigious prize for her artistic depiction of WB Yeats poem-"The Isle of Inisfree" which was presented to her by Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O'Sullivan in Kilkenny Education Centre recently.
Egg-citing news in our school- There has been tremendous excitement in school recently as the children have been counting down the days for the eggs to hatch from the incubator in school. This project has been run in conjunction with Nore Valley Pet Farm, Kilkenny and has been a really meaningful learning experience for the children and the teachers!!
Fair trade-The 6th class held their annual fair trade coffee afternoon on Thursday 11th June. This was a great success and a terrific opportunity for the class to not only host the event but to share some important information about "Fair trade" with the wider community.
Discover Primary Science and Maths Award- Our school is delighted to announce that we have worked hard to earn our second STEM award for science, technology, engineering and maths. Well done to Mrs Hopkins and all the pupils and teachers for all their hard work over the year.
The Annual Cemetery Mass will take place on Friday 3rd July at 7.30p.m and all graves should be attended to in advance of the event
Weekly Envelope Collection - Over the next couple of weeks the new boxes of weekly envelopes will be distributed. This envelope collection helps support the upkeep of our Church and Parish and we acknowledge with sincere thanks your generous donations over the past year. Tinryland First Communion
This year 29 Children celebrated First Holy Communion in Tinryland. Congratulations and many thanks to Ms McMahon and Ms Meaney on a wonderful First Holy Communion this year and all elements of the ceremony were much enjoyed by all parents and family members. Well done to all the team involved in making this day so special: the Parents involved in the preparations, Mary O Neill, the School Choir (4th, 5th and 6th Class), Mr Kelly, Primrose, Margaret, Liz and Mary & Brendan Farrell (sacristans) in preparing the church. Fr Sean was also thanked for his role in preparing the children for First Holy Communion Mass performing the ceremony. Fr Tom and Fr Alex also concelebrated the mass the children on the day, much to their delight with their contributions were also acknowledged on the day by Anthony Farrell on behalf of the families.
