Weekly News Roundup - Sunday 5 Oct 2014
The death occurred on Friday 5th September at St Lukes Hospital Kilkenny after a short illness of Seamus Hayden of Kilmeaney.
Seamus who was in his early eighties was pre-deceased by his wife Mary in June 2007.
Seamus had a great affinity with nature having worked on the land all his life. In his retirement he cultivated a beautiful fruit and vegetable garden at his residence in Kilmeaney of which he was immensely proud. He was a staunch supporter of Tinryland and Carlow G.A.A. teams and for many years he travelled far and wide to games with his friends the late Eddie Byrne and the late Ned Feeney and others. As a mark of respect flags at Tinryland G.F.C. flew at half- mast while the Tinryland flag was also placed on his coffin at the removal of his remains to St. Joseph’s Church Tinryland on Monday 8th September. His requiem Mass on Tuesday 9th September was celebrated by his brother Fr. Eamonn Hayden a Kiltegan missionary who is based in Lusaka Zambia. Fr. Eamonn was assisted by Fr Sean Hyland the new C.C. in Askea, Bennekerry and Tinryland and Monsignor Brendan Byrne. Also in attendance were a number of Fr. Eamonn’s fellow priests from St. Patrick’s Missionary society Kiltegan. Music was provided by his grand- niece Aideen Byrne together with organist Mary Hennessy and the local choir from St. Joseph’s church Tinryland.
