The Late Mick Murphy

The death occurred recently after a short illness of Mick Murphy of Castletown Cottage, in St Luke's Hospital Kilkenny. Mick was in his 83rd year and was a well loved character in the area. He kept an open house, and his home was always a welcoming place for visitors. Although a life - long pioneer, there was always an offering of alcohol to his many callers. Mick loved his garden , and always kept it in perfect condition. In his younger days he played the drums with St Finian's Ceili Band. With his late brother Tom on accordian, they were once winners in the Leinster Fleadh Ceol for ceili bands. He also played with the late Sean Byrne, and was featured with Richie Kavanagh on his videos. He worked with local farmers all his life. He was also blessed with good neighbours. He will be sadly missed by his relatives, the Hayes and Curran families, his loving sister Bridie Curran, nephews, nieces, friends and neighbours. He was pre-deceased by his brother Tom, and sister Mollie Hayes.

Remains reposed at Carpenter Bros Funeral Home, Barrack St., Carlow, from 6pm on Sunday, with prayers at 9pm. Removal took place on Monday at 1.30pm to St. Joseph’s Church, Tinryland, arriving for Funeral Mass at 2pm, followed by burial in adjoining cemetery.
