Tinryland School Extension Opened

A large crowd of parents, past pupils and parishioners gathered in Fr. Cullen Memorial
National School, Tinryland last Wednesday 26th October to witness the official opening of
the new extension and refurbishment of school. The cutting of the ribbon was performed
by one of the school?s oldest past pupils Jim Deane Snr and the youngest junior infant,
John Scully. A guard of honour released blue and white balloons and the school was
blessed by new Parish priest Fr. Tom Little with the help of his predecessor Fr. John
McEvoy.

Everybody moved to the school gym then to watch the children perform a spoken, choral
rendition of Bob Dylan?s ?Forever Young? and the first ever performance of the schools?
anthem ?Tinryland School, we?re proud of you?. Chairperson of the Board of Management
Eamonn Redmond praised the work of the builders and consultants while Parents Association
chairperson Caroline Farrell outlined the parents? role in fundraising for the school
building fund. School principal John Kelly outlined the importance of the school for the
community of TInryland.
Afterwards everybody enjoyed refreshments which were provided by the Parents Association,
particularly the wonderful cake made by Lucia Condemi, Barbara Nolan and Sandra Ormond.
A great day was had by everyone and in the words of our new anthem, ?Its old and new, Its
me and you. Tinryland School, We?re proud of you?.

?Calling all Active Retirement Associations, Senior Citizen Groups &
Community Groups to an Afternoon of Theatre in The GB Shaw Theatre on
Wednesday 16th Nov at 2.15pm.
Commissioned in 2010 by Meath County Council Arts Office, Fruitcake
toured to 25 venues during Bealtaine Festival 2010 (a festival which
celebrates creativity in older age).

Written by Alice Barry and starring Mary McEvoy (Biddy from Glenroe!),
Fruitcake starts off as a cookery demonstration but is in fact an
account of one woman's life and how each ingredient reminds her of
past memories and decisions made which ultimately changed the course
of her life. Even though some lessons came late she now lives a
fruitful, productive life because of this.

Funny and poignant, this play has something for everyone. Tickets
?15/?12 concession from www.gbshawtheatre.ie or 059-917 2400.?
