Clerical and Pastoral Changes in Parish

The Kildare and Leighlin diocese, without a bishop since April 2010,
will have some changes among the priest personnel this coming
September. Tinryland Parish is involved. Fr John McEvoy, who this
month completes nine years as Parish Priest of Tinryland, will
transfer to the Parish of Paulstown and Goresbridge, Co. Kilkenny,
where he will reside in Goresbridge and will succeed Fr Larry Malone
PP, who is retiring, having reached the retirement age.

Tinryland Parish will be joined to the existing cluster of Askea and
Bennekerry Parishes. Each parish retains its independence. The new
larger cluster will be served pastorally by the existing team taking
care of Askea-Bennekerry parishes. It is envisaged that one of the
priests will take up residence in the Parochial House, Tinryland.

A large meeting of the parish took place on Wednesday night last. Fr Tom Little Adm.,
and Fr Liam Morgan C.C were present, and expressed the honour given to them for being
asked to care pastorally for the parish of Tinryland. They explained how they envisaged
moving into the new situation. An important part of this was addressing the number and
times of masses in the 3 churches. The proposal was accepted by all present, and
approved by the Parish Council. All 3 parishes in the group will make sacrifices. The 2
priests will endeavor to deliver a service at weekends, which will be sustainable into
the future. Eight Masses have been offered up to now in the 3 Churches, 3 of which were
on Saturday night. From the start of September Askea will no longer have a resident
priest, while Bennekerry and Tinryland will not have a Saturday evening Vigil Mass. The
schedule will be as follows:
Askea - Saturday evening at 7pm, Sunday at 9am, 10.30 and 12 noon.
Tinryland - Sunday at 10 am Bennekerry - Sunday at 11.30 am.
A farewell function is currently being organised for Fr. McEvoy to be held in the GAA
Centre Rathcrogue on Friday September 23rd. Tickets for same will be available soon.

Mr. Jim Boles

Locals in the area were saddened with the recent passing of Jim Boles,
Manchester and formerly of Tinryland Lower. Jim was Chairman of the
South Eastern Region of Active Retirement Ireland and held in the
highest esteem by all its members. He and his wife Patricia donated a
Perpetual Cup to Carlow Indoor Bowling on leaving to live in Manchester.

While in Carlow Jim resided in Tinryland however, retirement did not
exist in his vocabulary so he took on the role of Chair of the
Community Alert programme there. In addition, he served on the board
of the Senior Citizens in Carlow in the O'Brien Centre and interacted
so well with all its members.

After a short stay in hospital, Jim passed away a few short days from
his eighty first year and was interred in Manchester last week. He
will be fondly remembered by those fortunate to know him.
