Weekly News Roundup - Sunday 3 Oct 2010

Tinryland Parent and Toddler Group.

Tinryland Parent and Toddler Group will meet every Wednesday morning
from 9.30am till 11.30am, in the Parish Hall. Parents are very
welcome to drop in for a friendly chat and a cuppa, while their
children have the opportunity to play.

Athletics Training

Training for all Tinryland AC Juvenile Athletes will take place in Old
Leighlin on Monday and Wednesday nights at 7 pm over the coming months. For more
information contact any member of the committee.

Sympathy

Sympathy is extended to Michael Kehoe formerly of Park and the Kehoe
family on the death of Mary Kehoe (nee Hayden) of Riverside, Carlow
and formerly of Nurney on Sunday September 19th. Requiem Mass took
place on Wednesday followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery,
Tinryland.

Girls Football

Bennekerry/Tinryland have entered a team for this year's Girls Under
13 County tournament, which is the first time this competition has
been held.

On the 19th of July B/T played MLR in their first game losing on a
score of 1-8 to MLR's 8-1. Scorers were Roisin Byrne 0-7, Zoe Jackson 0-1 and
Katie Quinn 1-0

In their second game, B/T played Old Leighlin winning on a score of
5-2 to 3-1. Scorers Katie Quinn 3-1, Aideen Stronge & Roisin Byrne
1-0 each and Grace Lawlor 0-1.

In their third game B/T played St. Mullins winning on a score of 6-8
to 1-0 with scores from Katie Quinn 3-1, Jane Mullen 1-0, Cliodhna Ni
Se 1-4, Zoe Jackson 1-1, Roisin Byrne & Aideen stronge 0-1 each.

The girls 4th game was against Clonmore with B/T winning on a score of
4-4 to 2-8. Scorers Cliodhna Ni Se 2-2, Roisin Byrne 1-1 and Katie Quinn
1-1.

B/T's 5th game was against Ballon winning on a score of 6-9 to 1-0.
Scorers Roisin Byrne 1-2 Katie Quinn 3-3 Tara Murphy 0-1 Zoe Jackson 1-1
Shannon Cotter 0-2 and Aideen Stronge 1-0.

After all their games the girls were left in a three way play-off. In
the play off the girls played MLR winning on a score of B/T 8-6 to MLR
1-3. Scorers Aideen Stronge 3-3 Zoe Jackson 2-0 Katie Quinn 3-0 Roisin
Byrne 0-1 and Shannon cotter 0-2

They now await to play their semi-final.

Carlow-Dance Classes for over 60s

Come dance with expandance!
Alicia Christofi-Walshe, a founding member of expandance, will be
running classes for over 60s at the George Bernard Shaw Theatre. Keep
fit, maintain flexibility, strength, balance, and co-ordination all in
a social and relaxed environment! Classes begin Wednesday October 6th
from 11am to 1pm and will be running every Wednesday for 8-weeks. The
cost is 5 euro per session, for further info or bookings please ring

CPR & Defibrillator Training:

Carlow Community & Voluntary Forum have organised CPR & Defibrillator
training in the following areas: Askea Parish centre Sat October 16,
9am to 12.30pm and from 1pm to 4.30 Tullow November 13, 9am to
12.30pm and 1pm to 4.30pm, Sat November 27, Bagenalstown 9am ? 12.30
pm and from 1pm to 4.30. Saturday December 11, Askea Parish centre
9am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 4.30pm Clubs, Community groups and
organisations can avail of this valuable training. The CPR and
Defibrillator training takes 3.5 hours and is accredited by the Irish
Heart Foundation. Each course can accommodated 6 participants and
places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. The cost
of the Training is subsidised by the Carlow Community & Voluntary
Forum and therefore can be offered to affiliated members at the
reduced price of ?15 per person, your group/organisation can nominate
2 members to partake in the training. Participants must be affiliated
to the Carlow Community & Voluntary Forum. For more information on

Health Courses

FETAC Level 5 Health Care Courses: Care Support; Care Skills and
Occupational First Aid commencing shortly. Funding may be available if you
are in receipt of a Social Welfare Payment. To register your interest send

ST. FIACCS HOUSE GRAIGUECULLEN.

St. Fiaccs House is at present fundraising to build a new Activity
Centre. This centre will cater for the growing number of people, from
counties Carlow & Laois, who use their services on a daily basis.
Planning permission has been obtained and it is expected that work on
the 750,000 building will commence in January 2011.
The fundraising necessary, in the current economic climate, is a
monumental task but the committee acknowledge the generosity and
wholehearted support of the community for previous ventures.

The next fundraising activity lined up is a theatre night by the
Carlow Little Theatre on Fri. 8th. October. They will present 2 plays,
The Plaza Suite by Neil Simon & The Marriage Test in the Town Hall,
Centaur Street commencing @ 8.00 p.m. Tickets @ ?10 can be purchased
from St. Fiacs House, Graiguecullen Parish Centre or Margo @ (086)

Volunteer Awards

Co. Carlow and Co. Laois - Volunteering Ireland, Ireland's national
volunteer development agency, is on a country-wide search for
outstanding volunteers.

Communities and organisations are being asked to recognise and commend
the efforts of their local volunteers by nominating them for the
Ireland Involved Awards 2010, a scheme that makes a difference

Carlow Hospice Building fund

What a simple and novel fundraising idea!

A Giant Ring a Ring a Rosie in aid of the County Carlow Hospice
Building Fund will be held throughout Co. Carlow on Wednesday, 6th
October 2010 and everyone is invited to have a go. Please support by
hosting a fun `Ring a Rosie' in your school, club, office, street,
estate or work place. The main event will take place on Carlow's
Tullow Street @ 11.50am where drummers and street entertainers will
create a carnival atmosphere and shoppers can join in too. Organisers
are requested to collect just 1 euro from each participant and this
will go towards the County Carlow Hospice Building fund.

Ring-a-Ring-a-Rosie 2010 is the brainchild of Frances Mullins and she
