Tinryland G.F.C. Family Fun Day on Saturday next 11th September
The very popular Tinryland juvenile G.F.C. family fun day will take
place on Saturday next 11th September at 2 pm. Once again it promises to
be a fun filled day of activity for all the juvenile members of the club
and their families. Among the activities on the day will be Bouncy
castles, Pony rides, Face painting, tug o war, rounders and football
games for all ages. A Bar B Q will be held throughout the afternoon
also. Admission on the gate will ensure that all activities inside are
Successful Rockford Run
This year's 4 Mile Rockford Run was completely revamped and turned out to be an
outstanding success with a record turnout of almost 200 athletes, fun
runners and walkers. There was over twice as many finishers compared to last year and the
run received great praise from all participants with several athletics websites
commending the organisation and quality of the event. The event had many new features
including an online entry facility, a new race clock, water stations along the route,
live music along with a special draw for competitors after the race with many excellent
spot prizes on offer. The winners of the main prizes included Keith McGrath, Tinryland
(1,000 Euro Holiday Voucher), John Frier, Raheny (Colour Television), Rock Pender,
Bagenalstown (Weekend Away), Seamus Connolly (Digital Camera) and Jeremiah O'Sullivan
The prize-giving and showing of the race video took place afterwards
in Tinryland GAA Centre, Rathcrogue.
Prior to the race the Rockford Mini Marathon was held for juveniles
between the ages of 8 and 15 with 60 competitors taking part.Great
credit is due to race director Sean Doyle and his team of local
organisers in particular Pat and Carol Byrne, the caterers and
stewards for the vast amount of work put in over the last few months
which ensured the event was such a success and showed that this will
be a fixture to be reckoned with on the Irish athletics calendar for a
long time to come.
Development of the Tennis Club
The Tidy Towns group and The Tennis Club trustees are working in
partnership to develop the Tennis Club grounds (2.125 acres) as a
community amenity area.
The area is in a derelict condition at present, and improving it
would greatly enhance the appearance of the village, and also provide
a welcome recreation area for all. It is hoped to include the
following: Re-surface the tennis courts, Create an astro - turf pitch,
Construct a playground for children, Design an amenity/walking area
This is phase 1 of this ambitious project which will require some
serious funding, so it is hoped that all parishioners will offer their
support and encouragement.
The parents and children of Bennekerry National School with the
support of the Principal , Pauline Barrett and staff are busy
finalising the details for their 11th Annual Field Day in Duckett?s
Grove on September 12th .There will be the usual stalls ,Wheel of
Fortune, Bottle Stall, Win (yet another) goldfish, books, cakes, bric
a brac and some surprise ones with great prizes all thanks to the
support of local businesses.
A competitive football match will take place between the two great
rivals PALATINE and EIRE ÓG as the under 6s show how its done,
followed by a Tug of War. How would you like to own a collectors item
? A hurley signed by the famous Kilkenny Team of 2010 . Serious
bidding will take place for this item at our auction at 4pm .
Gates open 1.30pm . Gate prize is a overnight stay for 2 in Kilkenny
at the Beautiful Pembroke Hotel . Entry only 2.00 per adult. Children
free. Ample Free Parking available.

Because of the large numbers of groups who wish to use the Parish Hall
it is essential that people reserve their nights in advance. Bookings
are written in a
diary so double bookings can be avoided.

Tinryland Parent and Toddler Group will meet every Wednesday morning
from 9.30am till 11.30am, in the Parish Hall. Parents are very
welcome to drop in for a friendly chat and a cuppa, while their
children have the opportunity to play.
