Farewell celebrations for Fr. Eamonn

Fr Hayden's return to Zambia was marked last Friday night by a
farewell mass in Tinryland Church, followed by a get together of his
family and friends in Tinryland G.F.C. The local I.C.A presented him
with a cheque for 500 euro, which was the proceeds of their cookery
book launch last Christmas. This book was printed to commemorate 50
year's of I.C.A in the parish. There were also presentations from
Tinryland G.F.C clubs, Bennekerry/Tinryland ladies football club, St.
Joseph's soccer club and Tinryland Apostolic society. Fr Eamonn
thanked all associated with the event, and the gifts would be much
appreciated on the mission in Zambia on his return this week. Mrs
Josie Kelly was a very capable M.C on the night.


Late Danny O'Neill

The death occurred of Danny O'Neill at his home in Linkardstown on
Tuesday morning last after a long illness. Danny, who was 83 was a
native of Kilgraney, Bagenalstown, and came to live in Linkardstown in
1976, when he married Maggie (nee Townsend), having being introduced
21 years previously. A kind man whose concern for his family and
neighbours were well noted. A great supporter of Tinryland G.F.C,
Danny also had an abiding love of horse racing. He celebrated his
80th birthday 3 years ago in Rathcrogue where he was joined by his
family and friends. In his work, he moved through a number of employments a
nd was a great neighbour, kept a close eye on things and often alerted people
to things which he was the first to notice.
He began his working life in the quarries in Old
Leighlin, and also worked for some years with Jordan haulage in
Bagenalstown. For over 20 years he transported horses for trainer
Paddy Mullins to race meetings throughout the country. In latter
years until his retirement he was employed by Carlow Co. Council.

Dan was the eldest of eight: Dan, May (RIP), Lil, Eileen, Gretta, Ita, Jack (RIP) and Pansy.

Dan is deeply mourned by his wife Maggie (nee Townsend), Linkardstown - (married 33 years), five sisters,
brothers in law, many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Dan's family would like to thank Carlow Kilkenny homecare for their assistance during his illness. Mass was celebrated by Fr. John McEvoy PP assisted
by PJ Byrne PP Kilock, Fr Declan Foley PP Bagenalstown, Fr Mark Townsend CC Mountrath and Fr Eamonn Hayden from the Zambian missions.

Removal took place from his home on Wednesday evening last at 7pm to St. Joseph's Church, Tinryland, arriving at 7.30pm.
Requiem Mass on Thursday at 2pm, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Tinryland G.F.C. Golf Classic fixed for Friday 28th August

After a lapse of 2 years the Tinryland G.F.C. Golf Classic will be
held on Friday 28th August at Kilkea Castle Golf club. This years
event has already attracted a good entry but there are still a
number of available slots for teams of four. The entry fee is €240
per team which includes a meal afterwards in the Kilkea Castle
hotel. The tee box will be available from 10 a.m. on the day and all
proceeds will go towards ongoing development at the club grounds in

Computers for Beginners starts Tuesday evening 8th September at 7pm and Thursday
morning 10th September at 10am
Intermediate Computers starts Friday morning 18th September at 10am

Montessori School

Suantrai Montessori School is enrolling on an ongoing basis for September 09 and
January 10 starts. Booking for January 10 is essential as

Theatre Opening

The Visual Centre for Contemporary Art & the George Bernard Shaw Theatre will open
in Carlow town with a full artistic programme across the visual
and performing arts this autumn. On September 26th, the centre will be officially
launched with a full festival day of carnival and fun and games for
all the family. Volunteers are required who can perform side show acts. Contact

Pilgrimage

LEGION OF MARY Annual Pilgrimage to Our Lady’s Island takes place on Tuesday, 8 September (Nativity of Our Lady).
Coach leaves Carlow Bus Depot at 4 pm and will also stop in Tinryland. Ticket €15 may be booked by ringing Josie
0878324656 or Kathleen 9133292.

Pilgrimage Season

The pilgrimage season at Our Lady's Island, Wexford began on Saturday August 15th
with opening mass at 3 pm and concludes on Tuesday September 8th with closing mass
at 7 pm followed
by torchlight procession. Each day there is mass for pilgrims at 3 pm and 8 pm.
