Good Year for Tidy Towns
The AGM of Tinryland Tidy Towns was held in the Parochial House on Tuesday March 10th. There was a good attendance present on the night.
Great progress was achieved during the year. The highlight was the restoration in progress of the old parish hall. There was also three new litter bins installed in the village and boxes were erected, new shrubs were planted. Treasurer Jim Deane in financial report thanked the many local business people who contributed to funds. Within the next few months, it is hoped that the hall will be open to clubs in the parish.
Chairman Fr John McEvoy. Vice Chairman Oliver Seery, Secretary Trudi Shannon, Treasurer Jim Deane, Committee Brendan Farrell, Paddy Moore, John Jeaney, Pat Curran, Breda Nolan, Brigid Curtis and Bernadette Scott.
The committee were very pleased with the 2008 mark of 227 points which was an improvement on the previous years total.
LAUNCH OF FUNDRAISING EFFORT FOR PARISH HALL:
Thanks to those who attended the Thursday Launch.It was decided to join the Kildare & Leighlin Co-Op Lotto, which takes place at 4 pm each Wednesday in Portlaoise Parish Centre. We have some promoters already, but need many more. The tickets cost ─2 each, of which ─1 will immediately be profit for our Parish. Ticket buyers pick four numbers between 1 and 32. We aim to be in for the draw of Wednesday 25 March and weekly from then on. Tickets will be available from Monday 16 March in the Sacristy, at the Parochial House or in DeaneÝs Shop. Sold tickets and money should be returned a day before the Draw. Thus for our first Draw on Wed 25 March, tickets should be left in by 8 pm on Tuesday 24 March.
