Weekly News Roundup - Sunday 1 Feb 2009

BENNERKRRY/Tinryland and
Ballinkillen/Newtown played an
excellent game of football in the
2008 girls U16 football final in
Askea on Sunday which ended in a
draw, 4-7 each.
Bennekerry-Tinryland were the
first to score with an Amy Dwyer
point, and then Dwyer went on to
score a further 1-2 and with Niamh
Walshe and Zoe Curran also on the
mark, B/T led by 1-5 to 0-3 at the
break.
In the second half, Lauren
McGrath scored 1-1 which gave
B/T a cushion of nine points.
However, Newtown/Ballinkillen
scored a goal and began eating
into the lead with 1-2 scored in
quick succession. B/T then replied
with a Lauren McGrath goal and a
point from Deirdre O'Sullivan. This
left the teams level at 3-7 each.
With five minutes left, Ballin-
killen-Newtown had the ball in the
Bennekerry-Tinryland net to lead
by three points. With minutes to
go, Aoife Byrne soloed the ball up
the field and Lauren McGrath
equalised with a volley into the net
which forced a replay.
Both teams played excellent
football and B/T had excellent
players in Lauren McGrath, Katie
Doyle, Amy Dwyer, Deirdre
O'Sullivan, Orla Moran, Aoife
Byrne and Eimear Fahy. The
replay will be held on a date to be
announced.

went into a two goal lead courtesy
of a brace from Cliodhna O'Shea.

The team was: Cliodna O'Shea,
