Rossbeigh completes a four timer with victory at Fairyhouse
Local Racehorse Rossbeigh maintained his rich vein of form when he won his 4th race of the season in impressive style at the Fairyhouse Easter meeting on Saturday last.
Sporting the blue and white Tinryland colours of his owners Shay & Rita Byrne from Linkardstown Rossbeigh was given a magnificent ride by Ruby Walsh to easily win the Bambury Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle over 2 miles. Rossbeigh who was turned out looking a picture by his trainer Pat Hughes from Fenniscourt in Bagenalstown was following up another easy win on St. Patricks day when he won the Pinnacle Handicap hurdle at Wexford when ridden by Davy Russell. The success story for the 6yo Alhaarth gelding began at Downpatrick just before Christmas when ridden by Robbie Moran he scooted home in a 2mile 2 furlong event off a mark of 79. After narrowly losing out to top handicapper Splurge at Punchestown on new years eve Rossbeigh resumed winning ways at Thurles in early January when once again ridden by Robbie Moran he defeated subsequent winner Duers off a mark of 86 when he was the well backed 5/2 favourite. With regular jockey Moran suspended it was left to top jockey Davy Russell to do the steering at Wexford on St. Patricks day when Rossbeigh once again defied the Handicapper off a mark of 93 to win by 31/2 lengths over 2 miles.
With Davy Russell joining the list of suspended jockeys and Robbie Moran still on the sidelines Ruby Walsh was booked for last Saturday’s race and the recently crowned Cheltenham champion jockey gave the Tinryland horse a vintage ride to once again defy the handicapper off his new mark of 99 when a well backed 7/4 favourite. Only one other horse Bellflower Boy has won four Handicap Hurdles in Ireland this season and Rossbeigh will now aim to defy the Handicapper once again probably at the upcoming Punchestown festival.
