Girls Teams Lose Out in Leinster Basketball Finals
Bennekerry/Tinryland Basketball Girls U13 and U16 teams were unlucky to lose in the Leinster Community Finals in Carlow on Saturday, with both sides having depleted squads.
The Girls U13 team defeated Westmeath in the semi-final, only to lose out by 7 pts to eventual winners Malahide of Dublin in the decider.
The team was Roisin Breheny, Alison Farrell, Dearbhla Kelly, Jemina Kirwan, Lauren McGrath and Vivienne Nolan.
The Girls U16 team were missing prominent players Deirdre Doyle and Aisling Kinsella and lost to the Westmeath representatives in their opening game.
The team was Ciara Butler, Jamie Lee Doyle, Orla Canning, Ciara Smyth, Samantha Sheehy and Rebecca Nolan.
Leanne Costello, Castletown was very successful in the Special Olympics in Belfast recently taking home Gold and Silver Medals. In the Girls U11 Throw Ball, Leanne took Gold while in the 25m Sprint, she won silver. She was supported at the event by her parents Laz and Geraldine and her brothers Darren, Paul and Cathal.
There was once again a very large attendance at the Annual Cemetery Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, Tinryland on Friday last. The ceremony was conducted in the graveyard grounds. The celebrant was Rev. John McEvoy PP assisted by Rev. Eamonn Hayden.
A large amount of work was put into tending the graves in the weeks leading up to the event.
Pat McArdle, Michael Kelly and Pert Nolan and other parishioners are to be commended for their efforts in ensuring the graveyard was in excellent condition for the occasion. There was also a collection in aid of the maintenance of the cemetery and church grounds on the night.
Tidy Towns Fundraiser
A fundraiser in aid of the local tidy towns project will take place on Friday July 21st in Tinryland GAA Centre, Rathcrogue. Music will be provided by Penny Lane. Admission is 5 euro.
A raffle will be held on the night and all donations of spot prizes are welcome.
There will be a pilgrimage to Kildare and surrounding areas on Sunday July 22nd to visit locations connected with the diocesan patron St. Brigid.
Mass is included and the day will include a meal in a restaurant in Kildare. A packed lunch should be brought for the midday meal.
