Tinryland NS Receives Green Flag
Glorious sunshine was the order of the day on Friday last when local Councillor Jim Townsend raised the first Green Flag for Tinryland NS.
Children and staff wore something green in the spirit of the occasion.
Deputy Principal Renee Flynn outlined to the children and parents present the projects undertaken by pupils. This included reducing waste by 50%, shredding all paper was then given to a local dog breeder as bedding for his animals. Waste fruit products were also composted and used for the school shrubberies.
She thanked the parents for recycling plastics in the Kernanstown facility.
Mr. Jim Townsend, a green flag member thanked the various committees after the last few years of their great efforts. He urged all present to get behind the local tidy towns group who were doing marvellous work for the area.
The County Council was represented at the function by Bernard Duff (Enterprise and Communications) and Bernie O’Brien (Director of Services). Local Fine Gael Councillor Denis Foley and Senator Fergal Browne also attended the ceremony.
Mr. Liam Lawlor represented the Board of Management and Mick Byrne the Parent-Teacher Association. Mrs. Barbara Nolan and Mrs. Caroline Farrell were complimented for their tremendous work for the event.
After some concert items by pupils, there was great excitement when Jim Townsend raised the flag. All in attendance were then treated to refreshments.
This years cemetery mass will be held in Tinryland on Friday July 7th at 8 pm. All graves should be attended to over the coming month.
St Joseph’s Young Priests Society
The St Joseph’s Young Priests Society Annual Pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Saturday June 24th. A bus will be organised and tickets may be booked through Josie Kelly, Linkardstown ph 087-8324656.
The preacher at the Eucharist in the basilica will be Fr. Conn Maloney, Carlow College.
Bennekerry-Tinryland swimmers produced some fine displays in the Carlow Community Games Finals in Graiguecullen Pool on Sunday.
Gold medals were won by Donal Curran (Boys U14 Breaststroke) and Eoin Luke Kelly (Boys U12 Breaststroke) with both now advancing to the National Finals in late August/early September.

Corpus Christi Procession
There will be a procession after 11 am mass next Sunday in Tinryland on the Celebration of the Feast of Corpus Christi.
The Blessed Sacrament will be carried on the chosen route and the procession will end back in the church for the benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
The order of the procession will be as follows: 1 The First Communion Class 2 The Blessed Sacrament held by Fr. John McEvoy and the Canopy Bearers 3 The Local Choir 4 The ICA Group 5 Variety Group 6 Tinryland GAA and Handball Club 7 Bennekerry-Tinryland Ladies Football Club 8 St. Joseph’s AFC 9 Area 11 Community Games and 10 all other members of the congregation.
Tinryland ICA Guild will hold a Coffee morning and a Cake and Bring and Buy Sale in the Askea Parish Centre on Thursday June 22nd from 10 am to 12 noon. This fundraiser is in aid of the work in Zambia of Tinryland native Fr. Eamonn Hayden. All support would be greatly appreciated.
The committee formed to represent Tinryland in the Tidy Towns Competition is as follows: Michael Byrne, Martina Kenny (Secretary) and Jim Deane (Treasurer). Other members are Barbara Nolan, Trudi Shannon, Pat Curran, Brendan Farrell, Fr. John McEvoy PP, Tina Doyle, Caroline Farrell and P Moore.
All are welcome to attend any meeting and to help in the clean up campaign to improve the local environment.
The Annual Church Gate Collection in aid of the Holy Angels Day Care Centre will be held in St. Joseph’s Church, Tinryland on next weekend June 17th and 18th.
Suantrai Montessori School, Tinryland is now enrolling for September and Christmas 2006. Irish and English spoken.

There will be a bus to Mount Melleray on Sunday June 18th also taking in Clonmel, the Vee and other areas of scenic interest.
There will also be a bus to the RDS on Saturday July 1st for the 25th anniversary of the Medjugorje Conference. The cost for 2 days is €40.
