Bennekerry-Tinryland recorded a fine double in the Carlow Community Games last weekend when both the Boys Under 10 Gaelic Football and Under 12 Soccer Titles.
The Boys Under 10 Gaelic Football team played Rathvilly in their opening game in Grange on Saturday. The Area 11 team were far too strong on the day and were comfortable winners on a score of 7-6 to 2-0. The half time score was 4-3 to 1-0. Scores came from Ciaran Larkin (2-1), Sean Kirwan (2-0), Shane O’Neill (1-1), Niall Lowry (1-1), Brian O’Mahoney (1-0), Simon Lowry (0-2) and Cathal Costello (0-1).
In the semi-finals they recorded another decisive win over St. Lazerian’s on a score of 9-5 to 2-1 after leading by 5-3 to 1-0 at the break.
Scorers for Area 11 were Sean Kirwan (3-1), Cathal Costello (3-1), Ciaran Larkin (1-2), Cathal Kenny (1-0), Killian Maher (1-0) and Peter Hennessy (0-1).
In the decider Bennekerry-Tinryland faced Tullow-Grange and proved to be equally rampant by hammering the opposition by 9-2 to 1-0, having been in control throughout the match. After leading by 4-1 to 1-0 at the interval, B/T scored 5 further goals in the 2nd half without conceding any scores. Scorers were Cathal Costello (4-1), Shane O’Neill (3-0), Sean Kirwan (1-1) and Conor O’Toole (1-0).
The panel was Simon Lowry, Odhlan Duff, Brian O’Mahoney, Michael Daly, John Murren, Cathal Kenny, Conor Crowley, Fionnan Burke, Ciaran Larkin, Peter Hennessy, Adam Nolan, Niall Scully, Killian Maher, Niall Lowry, Sean Kirwan, Conor O’Toole, Shane O’Neill, Brendan Farrell, Cathal Costello and Roisin Byrne.
This was a great overall effort by the team and credit is due to coaches Bernard Duff and Michael Nolan.
Bennekerry-Tinryland won the Boys Under 12 Soccer Title in magnificent style with a 6-1 demolition of Rathvilly on Sunday. Goals from Ciaran Townsend and Brian Mullen in the first half saw B/T lead 2-0 at half time. Further goals from David O’Neill, Brian Mullen, Ciaran Townsend and Diarmuid Walshe ensured an impressive win after a convincing performance throughout the game.
The team was Danny Mernagh, Mark Rennick, Cormac Duff, Brian Mullen, Conor O’Neill, David O’Neill, Harry Hennessy, Shane Webb, Colin Townsend, Ciaran Townsend, Christophe Chall, Marcus Lawlor, Cian Lawlor, Michael Calvey and Diarmuid Walshe.
The Community Games Finals will be held in the Tinryland GAA Centre, Rathcrogue on Thursday May 18th commencing at 6.30 pm.

Ladies Mini Marathon
Runners and Sponsors are sought in support of the Holy Angels Day Care

The Tinryland ICA Annual Outing to Lismore Castle and Gardens in Co. Waterford and Mount Melleray will take place on Tuesday June 13th. Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock
On Sunday June 4th next, Bishop Jim Moriarty will lead priests and people of the diocese in the Pilgrimage to Knock. A bus will bring pilgrims from the area. Tickets for the bus may be obtained in the sacristy for Adults (20 Euro) or Children U14 (10 Euro).
Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Peg Kennedy, Kyle on the death of her brother Matt Nolan, Myshall who died during the week.
