Pat Meaney completes his 2nd tour of duty at the Niall Mellon Challenge
RATHCROGUE building contractor Pat Meaney recently returned from his second tour of duty at the Niall Mellon Township challenge in Imizamo Yethu near Cape Town in South Africa. Together with 700 other volunteers from the Irish construction industry Pat and his colleagues built 106 houses in a two week period for the residents of the Imizamo Yethu township who had been living in corrugated iron shacks up to the time the Irish builders moved in under the direction of Dubliner Niall Mellon.
Pat’s input into this project has been huge particularly this year when he raised •9000 for the fund. In April the Rathcrogue man organised a hugely successful golf classic at Kilkea golf club which attracted good support from the Tinryland area.
VARIETY GROUP: Training for the variety group has resumed and will be held every Tuesday night at 8.00 pm in the clubhouse. Open to anybody over 16 interested in singing, drama or dance. New members young and old welcome.
PRO OF THE YEAR: Local correspondent Mark Shannon has been honored by Carlow Community Games as the PRO of the year of the 14 areas within the county. His award of as Cavan Crystal Clock is sponsored by The Nationalist and was presented to area 11 Chairman Tommy Lyons on Marks behalf at the county Community Games AGM in the Carlow Hurling Club on Sunday Last.
TINRYLAND HANDBALL CLUB: Tinryland Handball Club would like to thank everyone who supported their handball marathon fundraiser last weekend. Sincere sympathy to Martin Clancy on the death of his father Joe.
SYMPATHY: Sympathy is extended to the Scully and Farrell families of Tinryland on the death of their sister Mrs Mai Roche, Rathoe who died on Friday last. Her remains were removed from her residence to Rathoe Church on Sunday evening. She was buried in the adjoining cemetery after requiem mass on Monday.
