Weekly News Roundup - Sunday 21 Aug 2005

WEDDING: The wedding took place in St. Mary’s Church, Foxfield Co. Leitrim on Saturday last of Paul Brennan, son of Leo and Ann, Castletown and Lorraine Greenan, Foxfield. The nuptial mass was celebrated by Fr. Harry Bohan, cousin of the bride.
The maid of honour was Bernadette McGovern while the bridesmaids were Siobhan Greenan and Lisa Conefrey. The best man was Shane McDonald and the groomsmen were Paul McNally and Danny Gore.
The flowergirl was Rebecca McNally and the pageboy was Conor McGovern. The reception was held in the Slieve Russell Hotel in Cavan and the honeymoon is being spent in New York and the Caribbean.

LOCAL SOCCER PLAYERS DO WELL AT GALWAY INTERNATIONAL SOCCER EVENT: Local soccer players Conor Byrne and David O’Shea played a major role for the F.A.I. south east development team at last weeks Umbro Galway cup International U.15 tournament.
Both players were involved throughout the week as the South East squad made up of players from Carlow, Wexford and Wicklow took on academy teams from Glasgow Celtic, Preston North End, Bohemians, Calgary from Canada, F.C. Yarnton from England and the Republic of Ireland U15 team in the tournament promoted by Salthill Devon F.C. At the end of an intense week of soccer the South East team finished 5th overall. Among the highlights was a great display against eventual Tournament winners Ireland with the South East boys getting a great draw against the cream of this country’s young players.
Conor played his best game in this match while David was outstanding in the 4-1 victory over F.C. Yarnton, the Oxfordshire academy team managed by ex Chelsea and Celtic player Paul Elliot. 3 other Carlow players were involved with the Southeast team together with 9 players each from Wexford and Wicklow.

OFF TO MOSNEY: Best wishes are extended to the following competitors who will represent area 11 in Butlins this weekend: Art U.10 Macdara Burke, Mountain Bike U.14 Declan Ryan, Swimmers U.10 freestyle Andrew Hanley, U.12 freestyle Donal Curran, U.16 breastroke Simon Breheny, U.16 breastroke Allison Hanley, Gymnastics U.8 Aine McGoff, U.10 Rebecca Holohan and Trisha Sloyan, U.12 Sarah Rennick, U.16 Mary Barrett, Boys U.12 Brendan Hutton.
