Mrs. Lil O’Neill
The death occurred in St. Luke’s Hospital, Kilkenny on Wednesday May 25th of Lil O’Neill (nee Broderick) of Staplestown. Lil, who was 79, had been unwell for some years. A native of Ballycrogue, she was a totally committed parishioner and lived for all things Tinryland. She was a prominent and founder member of the local Senior Citizens Committee and was also on the first Parish Council and very involved in the GAA Social Club. Lil was an active member of Tinryland AC and was described by Fr. John McEvoy PP as a kind neighbour who was always willing to lend a hand. In the Glenfesk area of Kerry where her daughter Geraldine resides, Lil made many new acquaintances and travelled to Lourdes on two pilgrimages with people from that area and had also travelled there twice with the Tinryland group of St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society. Despite her poor health in recent years, she never complained and lived for her family, friends and parishioners right up to the moment of her death. She will be sadly missed by her sons Henry (Staplestown), Michael (Ballycrogue), daughters Brigid (Rossmore), Bernadette (Dublin), Pauline (Rathoe), Margaret (Staplestown), Mary (Paulstown), Geraldine (Glenfesk, Kerry) and Clare (Dublin), sister Brid (Athy), brothers Noel (Tinryland), Vincent (Carlow) and Des (Ballycrogue), sons in law, daughters in law, 11 grandchildren including the recently born Lil O’Neill (Staplestown), brother in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Removal took place from her residence on Friday to St. Joseph’s Church, Tinryland. Funeral took place after 12o’c Mass on Saturday in the adjoining cemetery.
