COMMUNITY GAMES: Bennekerry-Tinryland contested two Carlow Community Games Girls Basketball Finals over the weekend. In the Girls Under 13 decider, Bennekerry-Tinryland played St. Lazerian’s and tried hard throughout but were up against a very strong team. After trailing 5-12 at the interval, B/T were completely outclassed in the second period and eventually lost out by 27 points to 7. The team was Aoife Byrne, Caoimhe Townsend (5), Niamh Walshe, Niamh Redmond (2), Sara Rennick, Roisin Breheny, Leanne Walsh, Orna O’Doherty and Amanda Kinsella.

The Girls Under 16 team took the County title after overcoming a good St. Lazerian’s team by 16 pts to 12. These were two very evenly matched teams with great defensive work which kept scores low during the game. B/T were first to register a score and led by 11 pts to 7 at half time courtesy of scores from Deirdre Doyle (6) and Mary Barrett (5). In the second half further scores from Barrett (2), Jamie Lee Doyle (2) and Ciara Butler (1) ensured another title.

The team was Deirdre Doyle, Mary Barrett, Ciara Butler, Jamie Lee Doyle, Ciara Smyth, Aisling Kinsella, Amanda Cassidy, Roisin Walshe and Orla Canning.

Great credit once again must go to coach Eddie Corcoran for his efforts with these teams.

INDOOR SOCCER: The Bennekerry/Tinryland Boys Under 11 Indoor Soccer team played Myshall in the 1st round of the competition. They came up against a stronger team and went on to lose 2-0 after a good team performance. The team was Ciaran Townsend, Colin Townsend, Diarmuid Walshe, Shane Webb, Brian Mullen, Michael Calvey and Conor Nolan. The team manager was Bernard Mullen.

LADIES MINI MARATHON: Runners and walkers are sought for this years Ladies Mini Marathon to join the group which is raising funds for Tinryland NS and the Senior Citizens Committee. For further information please contact Aisling at 086-3694365.

REACH OUT: A workshop to help enthuse and equip Parish volunteers to do visitation in their parish will take place in the Dolmen Hotel, Carlow on Tuesday February 22nd at 8 pm. Volunteers are sought and names should be given to Fr. McEvoy as soon as possible.
