Mr. Dan Curran
The sudden death of Dan Curran, Linkardstown on Thursday morning last stunned his family, neighbours and many friends. Dan, who was aged 62 years, was due to begin his 26th year in Irish Sugar on Monday next and was in good health. After leaving school, he worked with local farmer Paddy Regan for 23 years before joining Irish Sugar. He was described by celebrant Fr. John McEvoy in his homily as a man with a big heart who with his late wife Cecilia welcomed all to his home. He played football with Nurney in his youth and followed their fortunes until their decline in recent years. The untimely death of his wife Cecilia in 1999 devastated Dan as they were a united couple. He enjoyed a few pints with his friends in Nancy Whiskeys and Carpenters. The large congregation that attended the removal of his remains and burial mass was testament to his popularity. He is survived by his sons Danny (Castledermot) and Ollie (Linkardstown), daughters Judy (Cork), Kathleen (Lime Trees, Tinryland), Cecilia (Carlow) and Antoinette (Linkardstown), brothers Eamonn and Anthony (Linkardstown), Pat (Tinryland), Donie (Carlow), sisters Ann Proctor (Tinryland), Kathleen Quinn (Borris), Nancy Jeffers (Augha, Nurney), aunt Kit Daly (Castlecomer), sons in law, daughter in law, sisters in law, brothers in law, grandchildren, relatives and friends. Remains were removed from his residence on Friday to St. Joseph’s Church, Tinryland for 7.30 pm Mass. Burial took place in the adjoining cemetery on Saturday after Requiem Mass.
