Tinryland G.F.C. will hold a Barbeque on Saturday 7th August in the GAA Club, Rathcrogue.
Music on the night will be provided by Carlow band Phoenix fronted by well-known musician John Brennan. Admission on the night is strictly by ticket only. Tickets at €15 can be purchased in the club. For further details contact Peter Scully, Mick Murphy or Sandra Walker.
Handballers into National Finals
Bennekerry/Tinryland Boys Under 15 Handball Team advanced to the National Community Games Finals after a fine win over Clara (Offaly) in the Leinster Final in Carlow recently. The Girls Under 16 Basketball Team were unlucky to lose against Rathcoole of Dublin in their decider having played excellently en route to the final.
B/T Under 15 Handball Team got a bye straight through to the Leinster final. They had to play Clara of Offaly in the final. All the lads gave good displays in their matches scoring some great aces. B/T went onto win the final on a very decisive score-line of B/T (Carlow) 101 to Clara (Offaly) 46. The team was Colm Nolan, Matthew O'Toole, Shane Redmond, Brian Deane and Kevin Barrett. Great credit is due to Michael Nolan for training the team. The team now goes forward to represent their area (B/T) and County (Carlow) at the All Ireland Finals in Mosney In August. Best Of Luck to all concerned.
Bennekerry/Tinryland Girls Under 16 Basketballers played Longford North in the Semi-Final of the Leinster Community Games Competition.
This was a very fast game with Longford scoring first before Carlow began to settle and started scoring with some lovely scores coming from Christine Scully 5pts, Tanya Dowling/Doyle 2pts, Carrie Lawlor 2pts and Sinéad Lyons 2pts. The half time score was Longford North 13pts Bennekerry/Tinryland 11pts.In the second half Longford again scored first taking a lead of 16pts to 11pts, but B/T got the scoring going again with scores coming from Sinéad Lyons 4pts, Carrie Lawlor 3pts, Ciara Butler 1pt and Christine Scully 1pt. The game proved a very tense and exciting finish with B/T holding onto a 2pt lead to advance into the Leinster Final.
The final score line was Bennekerry/Tinryland 20 Longford North 18
B/T played Rathcoole Dublin in the Leinster Final. The local girls started well in the opening half of the final with scores coming from Deirdre Doyle 4pts, Carrie Lawlor 4pts, Sinéad Lyons 2pts and Christine Scully 2pts leaving B/T ahead at half time with a scoreline of B/T 12pts to Dublin 9pts.
B/T came out in the second half with great hopes of winning but found that Dublin were upping their game and coming out very strong in the second half. The Carlow team were not playing as well as they did in the previous game and the first half of the final and only managed to score 8pts in the second half to Dublin's 22pts with scores coming from Carrie Lawlor 4pts, Deirdre Doyle 2pts, Sinead Lyons 1pt and Christine Scully 1pt. The final score-line was Dublin 31 to Carlow (B/T) 20. This was a great team performance. The team was Carrie Lawlor, Tanya Dowling/Doyle, Deirdre Doyle, Christine Scully, Sinéad Lyons, Ciara Butler, Mary Barrett and Ciara Jeaney. Great credit is due to coaches Eddie Corcoran and Denis Byrne.
Anyone who still has Bennekerry/Tinryland Athletic Singlets from County Finals should return them to Natasha Lyons as soon as possible.
There will be a churchgate collection in aid of Bennekerry/Tinryland Ladies Football Club on Saturday and Sunday August 7th and 8th. All support would be greatly appreciated.
Carlow County Council are preparing a village plan for the coordinated development of Tinryland. The public consultation process began on Friday July 16th with local people attending three sessions relating to the development of the village.
Written submissions are invited in relation to the proposed plan by interested persons and groups. These should be addressed to the Planning Department, Carlow County Council, Council Offices, Athy Road, Carlow. Envelopes should be marked “Village Plans” and the closing date for the receipt of written submissions is Friday August 20th at 5.30 pm.
There will be a coach tour to Dublin on Sunday August 8th to attend a sale of works by the Oblate Missions in St. Mary’s Hall, Inchicore. The trip also includes a visit to the Windsor Sunday markets in Tallaght. For further information contact Eithne Ryan at 9722004.
The wedding took place in St. Joseph’s Church, Tinryland on Saturday July 17th of Liz Cole, daughter of Eric and Frankie, Ballybar and Blake Stewart, Edinburgh, Scotland. The ceremony was performed by Rev. John McEvoy PP. The bridesmaid was Ann Cole while the best man was Dougie Meikle. The flowergirls were Aideen and Orla Coote and Emily Cole with Joe Cole as pageboy. The reception was held in Ballykealy House and the honeymoon is being spent in Italy. The newly weds will live in Edinburgh.
Used Computer/Fax Cartridges
Carlow Rotary Club are collecting used Computer/Fax/Photocopier Cartridges which can be in turn recycled to facilitate this, a box has been placed in Deanes Shop, Tinryland to collect same. All support would be greatly appreciated.
