Great Run in Nationals
13 year old Deirdre Doyle, Rutland, had her finest run to date when she finished a gallant 4th in the All Ireland Girls Under 15 Cross Country event in Mullingar on Sunday last. The Tinryland AC athlete who had finished 2nd in the equivalent Leinster test some weeks ago, also helped the Leinster team to win provincial gold medals.
Deirdre’s next run will be in the National Under 14 event in Killybegs on Sunday December 14th.
Pat Byrne had a great run to finish 14th in the National Senior Inter Counties CC which was also held in Mullingar.
Pat was very pleased with this run, which augurs well for his 5th successive Carlow CC title on January 4th.
Tommy Payne led the Irish over 45 team to 2nd position in the International Veterans CC in Cardiff, Wales recently.
Tinryland AC will stage its annual Handicap Turkey Trot on St. Stephen’s Day, which this year will be sponsored by Carlow Credit Union.
A meeting of Tinryland AC will be held in the GAA Centre, Rathcrogue on Wednesday December 10th at 8.30 pm. Preparations for the St. Stephens Day Turkey Trot Race and the County Cross Country Championships will be made at this meeting.
The following will constitute the new board of management for Tinryland for the next 4 years: Elected Parents- Brendan Farrell (St. Martin’s), Tina Doyle (Rathcrogue), Patron’s Nominees- Fr. John McEvoy PP, Marese Hennessy (Tinryland Lower), Staff Representatives- Miss Lorraine Dagg, B. Ed, Denis Shannon (Principal), Co-Opted Members- Liam Lawlor (Tinryland), Breege Buchs (Powerstown).
Senior Citizens Party
The Tinryland Senior Citizens Christmas Party will be held this year at the Ballykealy Manor Hotel on Sunday next, December 7th at 5 pm. If you are a new Senior Citizen in the Parish or recently retired or know someone who would like to receive an invitation this year please inform anyone in the committee to have the name added to the list. If anyone attending requires transport to and from Ballykealy on the day, please let a member of the committee know as soon as possible. Donations of spot prizes would be very welcome to add to the enjoyment of the day. The committee is Mrs. Betty Grogan, Mrs. May Byrne, Mrs. Jenny Byrne, Mrs. Mary Moore, Mrs. Josie Kelly, Mrs. Marie Byrne and Mrs. Nan Farrell.
Scor Na nOg
Best wishes are extended to the Tinryland team who will compete in the Leinster semi-finals of Scor na nOg in Portarlington Co. Laois on Sunday next, December 7th.
Folk singer Jimmy Crowley entertained a sizeable audience at Tinryland G.F.C. on Saturday last. The Cork musician sang many of his well-known numbers, which went down very well.
Last weekend’s concert was the beginning of a very busy month at the club.
On Saturday next Paddy Delaney and friends will hold a traditional music session.
On Saturday 13th December the club members Christmas party will be held featuring “Big John’s xmas special”.
The children’s Christmas disco will be held on Sunday 14th December between 3pm and 6p.m.
The A.G.M. of Tinryland G.F.C. will be held on Monday 15th December commencing with mass for deceased members at 8.p.m.
Saturday 20th December will see the annual Christmas draw with music provided by “Men In Black”.
On St. Stephens night club members will be entertained by “Penny Lane” while tickets are now on sale for the New Years Eve party when “Men in Black” will once again be in action.
Tickets for St Josephs Annual balloon Race went on sale on Friday 28th Nov. You can buy a ticket from Deanes Shop, any member of the committee or from parents and players in the club. The Balloons will be launched on the 27th Dec when the Club holds its annual soccer event in the field. If you want to launch your own Balloon you can do so on the day
Under 11 League
St Josephs 3 – Vale Wanderers 0
This under 11 team is improving with every game and following heavy rain they had to play in heavy conditions on Saturday morning. David Townsend gave the home side the lead with a great drive and with Michael Foley playing well the home side continued to push forward. HT1-0 The second half was much the same and when Paul Costello gave Joeys the cushion of a 2 goal lead everybody relaxed and finished the game off when David Townsend scored a fine individual goal to make it 3-0. Best for Joeys in a good team display were Michael Foley, Colm Curran and Eric Bates.
Under 9 League
St Josephs 8 Vale Wanderers 1
Joeys under 9s proved too strong for a gallant Vale side. Ciaran Townsend, Shane Webb, Christopher Gaul and Marcus Lawlor all scored two goals each. Cathal Whelan, Barry Power and Jack Sheehan were outstanding.
There are no games this weekend.
The wedding took place in Clologue, Wexford on Saturday last of John Tomkins, son of Hope Tomkins, Graiguenaspideogue and Emer Murphy of Clologue. The celebrant was Rev. Odhran Furlong and the reception was held in the Rivercourt Hotel, Enniscorthy.
The monthly meeting of Tinryland ICA will be held in the GAA Centre, Rathcrogue tonight (Wednesday) at 8 pm. All new members are welcome to attend.
Tinryland Foroige Club have resumed their weekly meetings, which are held in Rathcrogue Centre on Fridays between 7 and 8.30 pm.
The club caters for young people between the ages of 12 and 18.
All new and existing members are welcome to attend.
St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society
The monthly meeting of St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society takes place in the Parochial House, Tinryland tomorrow night (Thursday) at 8.20 pm.
