Relay team take National Bronze

Area 11 Under 14 Boys relay team ran out of their skins to win bronze medals in the National Community Games Finals in Mosney Co. Meath on Sunday last. Finishing 2nd in their heat and 2nd in their semi-final, a top 3 finish seemed to be their destiny. However some great team running and relay changes from Darren Murphy, Philip Condron, Peter Morgan and Jeff Sutton ensured that the team took bronze. Coach Chris Cleary had to plan without the injured Conor Byrne and also the fact that Peter carried an injury.
The under 15 mixed relay team of Sinead Lyons, Patrick Byrne, Lisa McGuill, Ambrose Doran, Padraig Townsend and Roisin Walshe ran well to reach the final and finished a creditable 4th.
6 year old Adam Murphy had a great performance to finish 4th in the Under 8 sprint, considering he is eligible for the same event next year. Deirdre Doyle, Girls Under 14 800m and Amanda Cassidy, Girls Under 14 100m did well to get in the top 6 in their finals and are both underage again next year. Jemina Kirwan, on her first visit to Mosney, reached the Girls Under 10 200m Final where she finished 5th while Paula Murphy, Girls Under 14 Hurdles, Alison Farrell, Girls Under 10 Hurdles and Michael Calvey, Boys Under 8, found the heats too tough to get through.
