Under 14 League
Parkville (Tullow) 3 - St Josephs 0
Playing against a team that has not dropped a point this season and who could go on to win this under 14 League St Josephs put up a very determined display. On a lovely morning for football in Tullow the home side pressed from the start and it was down to the Joey's defence to show what they could do. Tackling hard and competing for everything meant that despite their possession the home side was unable to get any clear shots at goal. On the break Joey's could have scored when Jeff Abbott crossed from the left and but for a great headed clearance by a Parkville defender Mikey Murphy would have had an open goal. With 5 minutes left in the opening half Parkville got the breakthrough when they broke quickly from a St Josephs corner and their left winger finished well giving Colm Nolan in the Joey's goal no chance. Within 2 minutes it was 2-0 when a soft clearance was picked up by the Parkville no.9 who again finished well. Half time 2-0
The second half saw Joey's continue to work hard but against this very strong team there were few opportunities. Parkville score a 3rd with 5 minutes left in the game and but for a couple of good saves by Colm Nolan in the last few minutes they might have scored more as Joey's lost their shape. All in all this was a much better performance by this Joey's team and if the same commitment was there every week the results would be a lot better. As usual Ciaran Farrel and Brian o Neill were outstanding but this week they were well supported by Darragh Walsh who was tenacious in the tackle and also more constructive. Ambrose Doran who represented the Carlow and District League last week in Wexford and performed very well was on form throughout the entire match against Parkville. Training for this team continues every Friday at 8:00pm in the hall in Graiguecullen.
Registration: All registrations for the Carlow and District League have finished and while St Josephs are happy to deal with any enquiries we will not be taking on any new players until next season.
