The tidy towns committee has arranged a clean up of the village square tonight (Wednesday) at 7 pm. The plan is to get rid of the weeds first and then put in a few plants to brighten the area. Anyone with a bit of extra energy and a hoe would be most welcome.
The wedding took place in St. Joseph's Church, Tinryland on Saturday last of Catherine Murphy, daughter of Michael and Mary, Linkardstown and John Lynch, Callan Co. Kilkenny. The nuptial mass was celebrated by Fr. John Cushen, Carlow Parish assisted by Fr. Dalton, PP Callan. The best man was David Lynch (brother of groom) while the bridesmaid was Mairead Murphy. The flowergirl was Dervla Lynch with Declan Murphy as pageboy. The reception was held in Hotel Kilkenny and the honeymoon is being currently spent in Cyprus.
Tinryland NS Mini Sevens Boys team were most unlucky go through to the County Finals from the qualifying round which took place in Rathcrogue on Monday last. The team defeated Askea BNS, Ballon and the Gaelscoil before they lost their final match to Bennekerry. The event was decided on score difference with the Gaelscoil emerging as winners. Tinryland had outstanding players in Colm Nolan (leading scorer), Mikey Murphy, Shane Redmond and Darren Murphy. The Girls Mini Sevens held in Pairc Ui Bhriain on Tuesday last saw Tinryland draw with Scoil Mhuire before losing to the stronger Gaelscoil outfit. The team was best served by Emma and Paula Murphy and Rachel Moore.
Tinryland NS Finance Committee request a number of ladies prepared to take part in this year's Mini Marathon on June 3rd. Anyone interested Margaret Townsend, Maire Foster, Meliosa Walshe, Ann Redmond or Marie Murphy.
On next Saturday May 11th, the committee are organising a 60's, 70's and 80's "Nite-Out" in the GFC Centre. An enjoyable occasion is guaranteed so begin your office and wardrobe trawl.
There were some fine performances from Tinryland athletes in the Leinster Road Championships in Rathdrum Co.Wicklow on Monday last. Tommy Payne was once again a fine winner of the Veteran Mens 6km Event with Jeremiah O'Sullivan placing a fine 8th, JJ Murphy 14th and Eddie Walshe 18th to ensure Tinryland were 2nd club and Carlow 3rd County. PJ Byrne ran a great race to finish 2nd in the Novice Men with teammate Dwayne Farrell taking the bronze medal. Tinryland won the team section and also formed the Carlow team that won the Inter-County title. The other club members to score on the winning team were Kieran Cahill 9th, Sean Doyle 11th, John Delaney 14th and PJ Doyle 16th.
Tina Doyle completed a successful outing for the club by taking the silver medal in the Veteran womens race.
The Area 11 Athletics Finals will be held in Rathcrogue on Thursday May 23rd at 6.30 pm.
Athletics Training continues in Tinryland and Bennekerry on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 pm.
The Annual Tinryland Juvenile GFC Race Night was held last weekend in the GAA Clubhouse, Rathcrogue. The night proved to be very enjoyable and successful and raised vital funds for the development of the club.
