12 year old Ann Marie Keogh, Ballybar won a Gold medal in the All Ireland Irish dancing championships which were held in the RDS on Thursday last.

This was Ann Marie's first time to enter at national level and was elated when news filtered through that she had won the title from an entry of 145 that came from Ireland, England and Scotland. Her entry was the reel in the under 13 age group. She has been dancing for the past 8 years with the O Donohue school of dancing where she is instructed by Mary and Matthew O Donohue. She has won over 70 medals at local and South Leinster level. Ann Marie who is daughter of Ann and the late Paddy hopes to continue her dancing for many years to come.

5 Gold Medals: The finals of Carlow Community Games swimming Competition were held in Bagenalstown on Saturday last, Area 11 swimmers all gave a great account of themselves and won 5 gold medals. There is now a possibility that the area will have 45 representatives in Butlins in September in the various competitions. Swimming results;

Boys U. 8 - Freestyle. 3rd Barry Kennedy, Ballycrogue.

Girls U. 10 - BackStroke. 1st Deirdre Doyle, Rutland.

Boys U.10 - Freestyle. 4th Simon Brehany, Friarstown.

Boys U.12 - Breaststroke. 1st Patrick Byrne, Linkardstown.

Girls U.14 - Breaststroke. 1st Elizabeth Gaule, Cloughna. 4th Sinead Byrne, Linkardstown.

Girls U. 14 - BackStroke. 1st Karen Doyle, Rutland.

Girls U. 16 - FreeStyle. 1st Fiona Daly, Brownshill.

Boys U. 14 - FreeStyle. 4th Declan Redmond, Tinryland.

Squad - Boys U.13 - 3rd. Patrick Byrne, David Kinsella, Ross O ' Neill and Darragh Walshe.

U-14 Girls IN final: Tinryland/Bennekerry came through a very tough encounter against Ballinkillen/Newtown in the county girls under 14 championship semi - final in Ballon on Thursday night on a score of 4-6 to 3-4. Tinryland/Bennekerry had a very poor opening half and were behind at half time by 3-4 to 1-2. Five minutes into the second half T/B scored a goal and from then until the end of the match they completely dominated, scoring 3-4 to no score in the second half. Best for team were: Backs: R Cleary, M Rooney, S Lyons. Midfield: G Nolan K Doyle. Forwards: C Farrell and A Farrell. Team: Aideen Byrne, L Kennedy, Tara Burke, Roisin Cleary, Laura Murphy, Michelle Rooney, Sinead Lyons, Gloria Nolan, Karen Doyle, A Doyle, Antoinette Farrell, Eilish Murphy, S Kelly, Clare Farrell, Caoimhe Whelan. Sub used: T Lawler. County final will be played in September against Mount Leinster Rangers.

U/14 Championship: Tinryland played Rathvilly in Rathvilly on Saturday lst. July. The team started well and played some good football, with John Murphy and Daniel O'Boyle controlling midfield. Evan Doyle, Colin Byrne and Patrick Townsend made up a strong halfback line who cleared their lines well to keep the pressure on Rathvilly. Tinryland went into the break 1-5 to 0-2.

Second half saw Rathvilly come more into the game with some good substitutions. They had the best of the play in the second half to score 1-4 to 0-2 for Tinryland but it was not enough and Tinryland ran out winners on a score, Tinryland 1-7 to Rathvilly 1-4.

Best for Tinryland: John Murphy, Daniel O'Boyle, Evan Doyle, Brian Byrne, Colin Byrne, Patrick Townsend, Liam Fitzpatrick.

Scorers for Tinryland. Colm Doran 1-0 Daniel O'Boyle 0-3 Paul Broderick 0-2 Liam Fitzpatrick 0 -2. Next Match: Saturday July I5th against Bagenalstown in Tinryland 6pm.

St. Joseph’s Young Priests Society: Bus for Our Lady's Island Jubilee Pilgrimage on 16th July. Names are now being taken. Contact Josie Kelly at 46286. Also thanks to all who supported the pilgrimage to Knock last weekend.

Annual Cemetery Mass: Will be held on Friday Next 7th July at 8pm. This will be followed by a get together at the G.A.A. Clubhouse where refreshments will be served. Come and have a chat with your neighbours.

Carlow County Athletics Board: A millennium social night and presentation of Co. Championship medals 2000 will be held in the Seven Oaks hotel on Wednesdays 5th July (tonight) at 8pm. All Athletes, Club Officials and friends of athletes are most welcome to come along and enjoy the evening. Buffet Supper costing £5/individual will be payable on the night. It will be a night of nostalgia and Clubs in the county are encouraged to display their own club history i.e. Newspaper cuttings, photo albums etc. A photo display of the Co. Championships 2000 and a video of the 1981 Odlum cup will also be shown.

G.A.A. News: The under 9 and 10 football team will play Sarsfield in Newbridge on Saturday next July 8th. A bus will be leaving from Tinryland at 9.30
