Tinryland Tigh an Raoireann
Tinryland NS Pupils had mixed fortunes in the INTO Mini Sevens GAA which was held in Rathcrogue and Palatine Last week.
The boys had great wins over Ballon, Glynn and Bennekerry before losing to Askea by a solitary point by 2-2 to 2-1. Tinryland dominated the 1st half but failed to score while Askea got 2-1 on the scoreboard. Tinryland responded promptly on the resumption with two well-taken goals by Christopher Townsend and a point from Ian Scully to level the game. However Askea’s only second half score was to prove the winner and they now advance to the County Finals. Best for Tinryland were pint sized Padraig Townsend, who was possibly the most skilful player in the round robin series, with Ian Scully, Christopher Townsend and Liam Fitzpatrick also playing well throughout the competition.
Tinryland girls played in Palatine on Wednesday last and had an excellent win over Clonegal in the 1st game by 4 pts. They met old rivals Bennekerry in the final and after a great struggle emerged victorious on a score of 2-2 to 2-1 and now qualify for the County Final. This will be played in Fenagh this (Wednesday) evening at 3.30 pm. Best for Tinryland were Sinead Lyons, Eilis Murphy, Tara Burke and Amanda Doyle while Gloria Nolan, Roisin Cleary and Noirin Farrell were excellent for Bennekerry.
Swimming Success: Tinryland NS Pupils Michael and Laura Murphy (Park) enjoyed great success in the Leinster Schools Swimming Finals in the Guinness Bi-Centenary Pool on Sunday last. Laura was a fine winner of the U-12 girls breaststroke event while Michael won the U-10 breaststroke and came 3rd in the U-10 freestyle. The event attracted a large turnout from primary and post-primary schools all over Leinster.
