The death took place in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Carlow on Saturday April 3 of Miss Pauline Whelan, Bally-crogue.
Pauline, who was 81 years, was a gentle, caring person who always looked after family and friends.
She is survived by her brother Michael, nephews, nieces, sister in law, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by brothers Peenie and Paddy, sisters Linda, Chris, Tess and Eileen.
Remains were removed from Healy’s Funeral Home, Pollerton Castle to St.Joseph’s Church, Tinryland on Sunday for 7.30 pm. Burial took place after Requiem Mass at 11 am on Monday in adjoining cemetery.
Tennis Club AGM: The AGM of Tinryland Tennis Club took place in Rathcrogue Centre on March 29. The following were elected: Chairperson, Brigid Doyle;secretary. Ann Redmond; treasurer, Ann Kavanagh; PRO, Mary Whyte. Membership forms are available shortly. Subscription rates for the forthcoming season are as follows: Family- £25, adult or juvenile single- £10. Coaching for all ages will be available in June.
AREA 11 TENNIS: Boys and Girls U13 and U16 who wish to take part in Community Games tennis this year should ring 42144 as soon as possible. Entries for both events must be in by May 19 with the competitions played on May 29.
Juvenile Fixtures: The following are fixtures in the opening round of the Coisde na nOg Competition:
Thursday April 8: U 16- Tinryland vs Tullow in Tinryland at 6.30 pm.
Saturday April 10: U 14- Tinryland vs Rathvilly in Tinryland at 6 pm.
Monday April 12: U12- Tinryland vs Fenagh in Tinryland at 7 pm.
Tinryland U16’s were beaten by O’Hanrahan’s by 2-8 to 0-8 in their opening match last Friday.
COMMUNITY GAMES: Training for Area 11 Community Games Athletics resumes in Tinryland on Tuesday, April 13 at 7 pm. All training sessions thereafter will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 pm.
Athletics: The 3rd stage of the 4 County League takes place in Gowran Co.Kilkenny on Sunday April 11th. Tinryland AC will have a strong number of athletes competing and will be hoping to consolidate their strong position in the overall team standing in Section A. Athletes should note that the start time is 12.30 pm.
Easter: The Easter Ceremonies in St.Joseph’s Church, Tinryland, were well attended. An innovation this year was to have the Stations of the Cross conducted along the Parochial Avenue and this proved very effective with a large congregation turning out.
Family Table Quiz: A Family Table Quiz in aid of Staplestown Church roof repair fund takes place in Rathcrogue House tonight (Wednesday) at 8.30 pm. All support would be very much appreciated.
Fundraiser: Carlow Outreach Group needs your help to raise funds to bring children from Belarus to Carlow. A Table Quiz will be held in the Royal Hotel, Carlow tonight (Wednesday) at 8.30 pm. Cost per table of four is £12.
Pilgrimage: The Divine Mercy Pilgrimage takes place in St.Saviour’s Church, Dominic Street, Dublin on Sunday April 11th.
Devotions include Mass, rosary, exposition, readings, benediction healing prayers and blessing with first class relic and confessions. Main celebrant is healing priest Fr.Gus Campion. Anyone interested in taking part please contact Eithne Ryan 22004 or Edward Dawson 59109.
