The village of Tinryland is situated 5km south-east of Carlow town, 1 km off the N80 Carlow- Wexford route in South-East Ireland. The village with a population of 400 contains a Shop, Roman Catholic Church, National School and Parish Hall.
The village situated on high ground, is very picturesque and has great views over the surrounding area.
The area had been served since 1832 by the Roman Catholic Church with the current primary school established in 1932.
There has been large improvements in the village in recent years with the local area development group and tidy towns committee playing a prominent role in landscaping and structural improvements. This has been reflected with the village winning Carlow Floral and Tidy Towns awards. There has been a large growth in population in the local area in recent years with local authority and private houses being built. There are plans at present put forward by Carlow County Council to redevelop the Tennis Club to the north of the village and construct a new community centre, play area and astroturf soccer pitch to serve the ever growing population.
