The village of Tinryland and surrounding townlands are rich in social, sporting and community spirit. The village located 3.5 miles from Carlow town has grown over the past number of years with many development projects being carried out with several proposal projects planned for the coming years, which will benefit the entire community and will also preserve the infrastructure of the village in keeping with the rural setting.

Over 1600 people now live in the Tinryland parish with 350 living in the village area. The local area development group are the main movers behind the urban and village renewal projects, which are being carried out in the village in conjunction with the tidy towns group which have merged with the development group. In the summer of 2000 a national tidy town award was given to Tinryland for best improvements and thus was the first endeavour award in Co Carlow.

Tinryland is well known for its successful athletics and football teams which have both dominated in their respective sports over the past few decades.
